About the adventure
This game will be a RP focused Experience set in the Warhammer 40k universe. Following the creation of the Great Rift Rogue Trader houses have become more important than ever as they chart safe routes through the new warp storms that plague the Space Lanes. Far from Terra, your ship will come across evidence that one of your rivals has begun searching for something they believe will bring them power and riches beyond compare. Thus will begin a race, one that will have serious consequences for the future of the Imperium. No experience of the Rogue Trader Rule set is required as we will be starting from the beginning, but some knowledge of 40k lore will be helpful. With that said if you are completely new to both don't worry I am happy to work with you, and given how much the average Imperial Citizen knows about the wider universe it won't be character breaking for you to have to ask a lot of questions.

About me
I have been running TTRPG's for around 15 years. I began with Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, but have run a variety of systems including, but not limited to, Fabula Ultima, Star Trek Adventures, Age of Sigmar Soulbound, Pugmire, Mass Effect 5e and Polymorph. I have recently focused my GMing on running games at Conventions but I have also run home games for longer campaigns. Several years ago my friends and I produced an Actual Play series on Youtube with myself as the GM, although I admit the audio and Video quality was somewhat lacking. My GM style is to focus on a strong narrative and role play elements, my favorite moments both as a player and a GM are always those deep emotional roleplay moments where we are able to dig into a character and really see what makes them tick.

Creating your character
We will create characters together as part of our session 0. If you are not comfortable with that, or have character Ideas that you wish to keep secret from the other players then I am quite happy to work with you to create your character individually. Details of the character creation process will be provided as part of an Introduction Document that will be sent shortly after you sign up. Unless you are familiar with the system I suggest coming up with a basic concept for a character that you would like to create and we can work together to make it happen within the rules. Just be warned no Space Marines. Your Characters will be starting at Rank 1 and gaining XP consistently as we play. Generally about 500xp a session, but I may increase that based on performance and challenges overcome. You will also be leveling as a party, because trying to balance a game for a mismatched party is a headache that I prefer to avoid.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be playing this Game over Discord and primarily using Theatre of the Mind techniques. You will not need anything else, I will send you a fillable PDF Character Sheet that we will work on together, or if you prefer paper you are welcome to print a copy. Having a d100 and some d10's will be extremely helpful, but if you prefer a digital dice roller that is also entirely acceptable. The use of cameras over Discord will be up to the players, and will be a matter we discuss as part of our Session 0.
What Richard Parrington brings to the table
I am somewhat experienced as an amateur voice actor and strive to give each NPC their own unique energy. I am not a master of accents however, so a lot of the NPC's will be suspiciously British, but it's Warhammer so that feels entirely appropriate. I am planning to make use of some ambient Music, likely drawn from 40k video game soundtracks, and some sound effects at suitable moments. Generally I will favor the Rule of Cool over Rules as Written, but that does not mean I will be throwing the rulebook out the window. For one thing buying a new copy is expensive since it's out of print. Primarily I want this to be a collaborative storytelling experience. You will be the stars, I am here to provide the stage.

How Richard Parrington creates a safe table
As part of the onboarding process I will be sending a link to a google form where you will have the opportunity to list lines, veils and any elements that are not hard no's but that you just would rather avoid. This document will also include the opportunity to request things you would like to see Included. X cards may be sent to me in anyway you prefer, this may be spoken, sent in a private message or posted in the general chat. Should any aftercare be required or you need to talk about the game I will be very happy to do so.
