About the adventure

You and your party have been investigating reports of magic-tainted mysteries in secret, on behalf of the Church, for years. This episodic campaign will see you chase more. What, or who, will you find? And will you save them? Or stamp them out? Ireland in 1950 is a country catching its breath. The fledgling Republic is still technically under a state of emergency, rationing is a fact of life, and small-town social tensions run deep. Modern life approaches, but in the furthest pockets of the countryside, folklore still festers. The Church maintains that magic is a fairytale, but you know better… This is a low magic homebrew setting that adapts modules from: - Journeys Through The Radiant Citadel - Candlekeep Mysteries - Uncaged Vol 1 and 2 It is extremely beginner friendly and will be a good mix of investigation, puzzle-solving and combat, with episodic mysteries. The vibe will shift, episode-by-episode, between whimsical, folk horror, and crime.

About me

In school, my best friend and I used to roleplay our favourite characters by passing notes back and forth in study hall. Twenty years later, I’m still pretending to be other people for fun - but with a lot more structure and sophistication, I hope! I’m a gay mother of two from Ireland who really enjoys the extensive, co-operative worldbuilding and deep character development that TTRPG can facilitate. I am always my players biggest fan and love to be surprised by them. I have about a year of experience as a DM, primarily in 5e/2024.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will send you a short primer on the setting before session 0, and you can begin building your character in advance, or we can build them together in the session. Your character will start at level 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use D&D Beyond for character sheets and maps. If you have not already, please sign up for a free account. Voice and video will be over Discord. You’ll receive an invitation to my server once we have enough players to start. Please make sure you have a strong connection and a good quality microphone - if we can’t hear you, we can’t play!

What Kitty brings to the table

To make this the most fun experience, you can expect it to be roleplay heavy. I will play NPCs (the characters you will meet in the game) with big and memorable personalities, and you are encouraged to talk to them and each other in character as much as you feel comfortable. Now and again, I will ask you to make up and describe details of the world around you that we can integrate into the game, as a way to help you get used to collaborating at the table. I will use background music and noise (via KenkuFM) to set the scene, as well as limited visuals on Beyond. I encourage you to collaborate with your party as much as possible. If you want to see something from the game, tell me! If you want to riff off each other for twenty minutes, go for it! This is your story.

Homebrew rules

- Nat 1 and Nat 20 are honoured as the best success / worst failure they can be within the realms of reasonable possibility, inside and out of combat.

Safety

How Kitty creates a safe table

We will be using the Monte Cook RPG consent checklist prior to session 1. We will create a blacklist of topics and situations before the campaign begins. Where any of those topics appear in the game, I will steer away. Players can anonymously call a 5 minute break at any time, no reason required, during a session. During those 5 minutes, I will stay present and contactable in case players need a chat to discuss their feelings and comfort levels.
