About the adventure
PIRATE BORG is... a self-contained rules-light RPG for running swashbuckling campaigns. Character creation is optimized for random generation (though not required), and during combat all rolls are made by the players: enemies don’t roll to attack, instead PCs roll to defend. Pirate Borg is fun, easy to learn, potentially deadly, and perfect for OSR/NuSR style one-shots and for campaigns that focus more on player agency and smart decisions and less on character optimization and “what’s on my character sheet”. A scurvy ridden, rules light, mood heavy RPG based on Mörk Borg. Inspired by history, fantasy, horror, and rum. Your cutlass & flintlock won't save you from hordes of skeletons and ghost ships...

About me
I value player expression and choices in collaborative experience building. I like to set the table for company, but what makes it an event is what all the people who pull up a chair bring to the table. I believe "Rule of Cool" is our friend. When it comes to making way for the awesome and memorable, I lean into a "Yes and" style of play. I've run games for all ages and can adjust content to suit younger players. I'm also experienced with corporate clients and am happy to tailor a session to your company needs. The games I offer provide opportunities for player skill to shine. Your creativity is not in "the build. It's in how you play not what you play. I believe in leaving consequences like injury and death on the table. I also believe that adventures are challenging things and that can include the unknown and the monstrous. Your choices and reactions to situations beyond your control, along with your use of the tools you have in the moment, are what really count. If you want to challenge yourself as a player by playing imperfect characters, doing dangerous things and snatching victory from the maw of doom, we should talk. What I don't do: - Adversarial GM or power gamer play styles. - Sexual Content. - Tolerate disrespect to myself or others at the table. - Real world politics or drama in game

Creating your character
PCs will be generate randomly in the first session. We will use this generator https://pirateborg.brettodonnell.ca/ We can go over options and there is some wiggle room. Going with the random factor is part of the fun of the game. PC is not uncommon so, you may get to explore a lot of characters.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You won't need a camera for this one but you will need to be able to hear and receive sound. "Gaming" headphones with a mic and noise cancelation is highly suggested. Take a look at the rules overview here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC6DmNex9l0 Try the random PC generator to get a sense of what characters are like. https://pirateborg.brettodonnell.ca/ Grab the rules reference https://static1.squarespace.com/static/603fdb9fada6165d919a6543/t/63c8e358d175e81f6ae9622b/1674109784614/PIRATE+BORG+Rules+Reference.pdf

How Skulliver creates a safe table
This is a "cinematic pirate" game. It's as if the Pirates of the Caribbean films were full of a lot more undead along with scary magic which poses a threat as often as a benefit. The setting is "The Dark Caribbean". So, imagine a swashbuckling pirate movie, combined with the vibes of Scandinavian doom metal and you have a sense for what this can be. It's a place full of adventure and can be a lot of fun. Not always survivable fun, but fun all the same. For real, characters die in this game. Leveling can make you better in some ways and worse in others. Embrace the chaos. Roll with it and you'll have fun.
