About the adventure

Uni and the Hunt for the Lost Horn A legendary magic is fading, and only you can restore it. Uni the unicorn has been ambushed by the power-hungry sorcerer Kelek, who used a dark artifact to sever her horn and drain her essence. Now, he flees toward a hidden demiplane to perform a ritual that could rewrite the fate of the Realm. If he succeeds, Uni’s magic will be extinguished forever—but Kelek is merely a pawn in a much deadlier game orchestrated by the overlord Venger. This adventure is a vibrant, fast-paced tribute to the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, specifically designed for fans of the classic 1980s animated series and new adventurers alike. You can step into the boots of the show’s iconic protagonists, now grown into powerful young adults, or bring your own hero to face the perils of the Realm. The Setting: A whimsical yet dangerous woodland that transitions into the surreal, shifting landscape of a demiplane trapped inside a Crystal Ball. The Theme: High-stakes heroism and nostalgia. This is a classic "race against time" where your choices determine if a beloved creature regains her power or falls to darkness. Playstyle: We will run this on Discord pbp. Daily posts are required. Hopefully multiple times a day. Perfect for: New Players: With pre-generated characters and streamlined 2024 rules, it’s a fantastic "Intro to D&D" experience. Veterans: Fans of the 80s cartoon will love seeing Uni, Kelek, and Venger return in a story that honors the original lore. Groups of 4-6: Optimized for Level 4 characters looking for a self-contained, magical "one-shot" adventure.

About me

I approach Game Mastering as a collaborative engine. My goal isn’t to defeat the players, but to provide a living world with meaningful consequences that makes a campaign truly memorable. Outside of the digital games, I’m a dedicated pet parent to my "baby" (a very spoiled dog) and two cats. This same nurturing energy carries over to my GMing; I’m a firm believer in the power of TTRPGs to build genuine social connections and provide a creative escape. I’ve been a fan of RPGs for over 20 years, simply because I love the way these games bring people together. While I've explored different systems over the years, I keep coming back to DnD.

Character creation

Creating your character

The Legends Return: I have six ready-to-play character sheets for the original protagonists of the 1980s animated series: Bobby, Diana, Eric, Hank, Presto, and Sheila. They are presented as young adults, leveled up and ready for action. If you wish to use one. A New Hero: If you’d prefer to bring your own hero, you can create a Level 4 character. Creation Rules & Stats If you choose to build your own character, please follow these guidelines: The System: 5e 2024. Ability Scores: Point Buy. Equipment: Starting equipment or gold for your class and background. You also have 1 Common magic item (needs my approval) and 50gp. Allowed Books: Please stick with published books. No homebrew.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord, using Avrae and maybe Tupperbox. Dungeon and Dragons Beyond for character sheets, campaign and probably maps.

What KaoticDragon brings to the table

What You Can Expect For this Play-by-Post journey into the Realm, I provide a highly immersive, text-driven environment where your writing brings the adventure to life. Since we are operating asynchronously on Discord, my goal is to keep the momentum high and the storytelling rich. I use AI for character art/maps and fluff. Active Engagement: I commit to multiple daily posts to keep the story moving. You won’t be left hanging for days; I’ll be right there responding to your checks and dialogue to ensure the quest stays energized. Visual Aids: I provide digital maps for key encounters, so you always know exactly where your hero stands in the fray. My GM Style: "The Rule of Cool" While we use the 2024 D&D rules as our foundation, I prioritize heroic, cinematic moments over strict technicalities. Creative Problem Solving: If you have a wild idea to use the environment (like those exploding puffball mushrooms!) or want to use a magic item in a unique way, go for it. I want to see you succeed in ways that feel epic. Narrative Combat: Combat isn't just a math problem. I narrate the impact of your spells and the desperation of the bullywugs' attacks, turning every "Natural 20" into a legendary beat in our shared story. The Tools of the Trade D&D Beyond Integration: I provide a campaign link for easy character management and digital dice rolling. Discord & Avrae: We’ll use Discord-integrated rolling (Avrae) to keep the mechanics fast and the story front and center. Pre-made Legends: You'll have immediate access to the fully-fleshed-out Level 4 versions of the original animated series cast, ready for you to claim and roleplay! Ready your magic items and keep a close eye on Uni, the Realm is calling its heroes home.

Homebrew rules

House Rule: Healing Potions In the heat of battle, you have two ways to consume a potion: The Quick Sip (Bonus Action): You drink the potion quickly. Roll the healing dice as normal. The Careful Draught (Action): You take the time to drink every last drop. Roll the healing dice twice and use the highest total. 2024 Lockpicking Rules Lockpicking requires an Action and the use of Thieves’ Tools. You make a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check, adding your Proficiency Bonus (or double if you have Expertise). Difficulty - DC - Description Standard - 15 - A typical lock. This DC scales with your level. Hard - 20 - Professional grade; challenging for low-level heroes. Very Hard - 25 - Masterwork; typically requires Expertise to crack. Legendary - 30 - Nearly impossible; the finest craftsmanship in the Realm. Don't forget that another character can take the Help Action to grant you Advantage on your check!
