About the adventure

You lived a pretty normal life up until that shady merchant waltzed into the village before the harvest festival. "One thousand gold pieces!" He proclaimed to you and your friends. "If you can test all 100 wands for me. Make sure they work as they should." Behind him stood a short barrel packed full of wands which he motioned towards. "But you need to test every single one or you're not getting paid." The merchant demonstrates how to use one of the wands by taking one from his hip and blasting a branch off of a tree. Almost lighting the tree on fire in doing so. Just a quick magic word and a flick of a wrist was all it took, and a thousand gold is more than you earn in a year, even if it is split with your companions who would be undertaking this job alongside you. You even decide to take on the job of ridding the nearby forest grove of its gnoll infestation while you're at it for an even greater boost in pay. Yet you could never have imagined that taking this job would change your life forever. 💬 Game Details This is an asynchronous play by post game set in my homebrew world where you play as a commoner tasked with testing wands of magic missile. When you use each wand you will be asked to roll on a table of 10,000 random magical effects to determine what chaos occurs alongside the classic bolt of magic missile being fired. The game ends when all 100 wands are tested, or when all players die. Whichever comes first. Don't bring a character you are all too attached to, and get ready for absolute chaos. 🔥Character Driven and Story Focused The game will be largely driven by the groups character actions, and at the mercy of the wands of magic missile. 🖤 Boundaries The game is LGBTQ+ friendly and inclusive. We start the game off with a session 0 where we discuss what kind of character you want to play and whatever boundaries we both have. Session 0 is free and if during the first week you realize this style of game is not for you I will refund you the cost of that first week. 📅 Posting Schedule Daily long posts which advances the narrative forward, written with the same amount of detail I put into my fantasy novels. Additionally I will respond with shorter messages daily for more conversational roleplay between you and the NPCs.

About me

Hi! I have been a DM for close to 10 years, with 15 years experience in text roleplay and creative writing. My specialization is creating character arcs and involving character backstory into the plot of the game. I used to run successful a westmarch community 3 years ago where I streamed my games on twitch. I quit when I decided to go back to university and finish up my education and I realized I could not realistically do both. Additionally, I also enjoy building my own systems, homebrewing and worldbuilding. All my games take place in my own homebrew world where the actions of all players are canon. If you burn down a village, that village is gone for everyone.

Character creation

Creating your character

You will not have a level in this game. Come up with what your profession was and who you were. All of you will have an AC of 10 and 8 HP (Double what a standard commoner has). Character creation will be done during session 0, you do not need to bring any materials or programs. Just an idea of who you want to be.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you need is a discord account and an idea of what kind of character you want to play!

What Railynn brings to the table

I will provide a discord server with dedicated channels relevant to your game, weave your character into the setting and provide an interesting story where your character is one of the protagonists. Your characters actions will have lasting consequences on the world around it and will be provided plenty of opportunities to grow emotionally as well as in terms of strength.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a potion is a bonus action but feeding it to someone else is an action. I will allow you to do cool things even if it goes against the rules as long as it is at the bare minimum semi realistic. (No jumping to the moon with 10 strength and no magic aiding you for example.)

Safety

How Railynn creates a safe table

Before I start any game I run a session 0 where we go over our hopes and expectations for the game. Additionally, we will talk about boundaries, open communication, if you have any no-no topics or triggers I should avoid, etc. If there is something you don't want in the game, I will not put it in the game and I will keep an open communication with my players throughout the game and give warnings if something which could be any level of traumatic would happen (unless the player asks me not to in session 0). Once per month I check in with all my players to ask about how they feel about where the story is going as well as the vibe of the game. I also ask if there is anything they would love to see happen or something they would love for their character to be capable of and I will begin the process of creating opportunities for that to happen.
