About the adventure

The world of the Dark Future is defined by widespread suffering and relentless loss of life. As humanity begins to recover from the wars that have devastated the planet, Night City emerges as both a symbol of independence and a testament to destruction. At its core lies a nuclear fallout zone, and the city itself is divided into fragmented districts. Only a small portion remains truly habitable, with access to basic necessities such as running water and electricity. Salaryman is a campaign set in Night City during the 2040s, offering players the opportunity to experience the Dark Future through the perspective of the rising corporation, SLA Industries. This organisation specialises in the manufacture and trade of weaponry, positioning itself as a growing force within an unstable world. The campaign is well suited to those unfamiliar with the setting and mechanics of Cyberpunk RED, while remaining open and engaging for players of all experience levels.

About me

Hello, I am Brodie. I work a job in retail, which likely explains why I dream up dark and terrible things so frequently. I came across TTRPGs when I was still in Secondary School, however, my friends and I did not have any books to run games so we created our own. They weren't the best systems but they worked well enough we could create stories with measured rules. The stories we created were those you'd expect to get with a teenage boy mindset but we had fun and I believe that is all that really matters. Whilst I was still in Secondary School, I encountered the game Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. It changed how I viewed Vampires within the Modern culture setting. I looked up videos online for more information and encountered so many different channels and creators whose passion for the game infected me. I read more and more but I didn't actually play or host a game until quite recently. My first experience with an actual Chronicle of VTM was running one myself about two years ago and let me tell you, it was a mess, this was not just the first VTM game I ran, it was the first game I ran period. Again, I believe folk had fun and this was a marvellous learning opportunity for me. Every mistake I made (there was a lot) was a lesson in Storytelling and GMing. Today, I am much more confident, competent and experienced. I have sharpened my skills in narrative construction, improvisation, character development and emotional management. I love TTRPGs, they are so much fun and I am looking forward to running more games, becoming a better GM and meeting so many more wonderful characters and their absolutely brilliant players.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during Session Zero, conducted collaboratively as a group using the Cyberpunk Companion App. There are three methods of character generation available, each catering to different levels of customisation. The first is the simplest approach, ideal for players who wish to prepare a character quickly. With only a few dice rolls, you can create a ready to play Streetrat. The second method expands on this process with additional rolls, resulting in an Edgerunner. Finally, the Complete Package uses a point buy system. While more complex, it offers the greatest flexibility, allowing for the creation of a highly customised character. All three methods will be explained in detail during Session Zero, alongside additional character creation options. There may also be certain incentives available for those willing to Sell Out.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Requirements: Access to Discord, the Cyberpunk Companion App, and the Cyberpunk RED Corebook, as well as a computer or device with a stable internet connection.

What Brodie brings to the table

I take a dynamic approach to storytelling, placing players in challenging situations across social, combat, and exploratory encounters. These scenarios are designed to present meaningful decisions that shape the direction of the campaign, reflecting the harsh and unforgiving nature of the Cyberpunk setting. I aim to bring the world to life through a diverse cast of characters, engaging narrative developments, and impactful player choices. Character portrayal extends beyond simple accents, incorporating distinct cadence, rhythm, and manner of speech to create fully realised personalities. I incorporate ambient music via Spotify to enhance immersion and atmosphere during sessions, and you are welcome to listen along as it will be shared. When combat arises, I adhere to rules as written to ensure consistency and fairness for all players. Please note that combat in this system is intentionally challenging and can result in severe consequences for characters. While opportunities for planning may arise, Night City is inherently unpredictable, and even routine moments can escalate into dangerous encounters. My goal is for all players to enjoy the experience. While I will present significant challenges and genuine risk, I will not place players in unavoidable, unwinnable situations without clear warning and the opportunity to disengage. Danger and consequence are integral to the game, but they are balanced with fairness and player agency. While I may not reveal every hidden threat, I will ensure you are aware when risks are present.

Safety

How Brodie creates a safe table

This is a player focused game, and I want everyone at the table to feel safe and comfortable. That said, the setting is inherently dark, with themes and tones that are often grim in nature and likely to arise during play. Elements such as bigotry, cruelty, and malicious intent may be present. It is therefore important for me to understand individual boundaries and where limits should be set. As a Game Master, there are certain topics I will not depict directly, such as sexual assault, though references to such events or their impact on characters may exist within the narrative. During Session Zero, I will provide lines and veils documentation to help establish boundaries. If you already have one prepared, that is equally welcome. You are always free to message me or the group outside of sessions if anything feels uncomfortable or concerning. During play, you may request a pause at any time to step away or to discuss something that has occurred. At the end of each session, I will check in with everyone to ensure they are feeling comfortable, as the tone of the game can be intense. If any issues arise, I am always open to discussion, with the aim of maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
