About the adventure

Obojima has a way of making you feel like you have finally come home. It is a land of soft edges: spirits dancing in the tall grass, paper lanterns bobbing like fallen stars upon the tide, and village elders who know your favourite tea before you have even sat down. For a long time the island breathed with you, warm and generous, asking nothing in return but your presence and a quiet respect for the hidden things. The air has changed. The warmth has turned stagnant, heavy with a humidity that tastes of copper and old earth. The spirits no longer meet your gaze. They are looking past you, toward something rising from the roots of the world. The great Yokai, creatures you once viewed with distant awe, are trembling. What stirs beneath the island is not a beast or a god. It is older than both, a nameless and primal thing waking into a world that has forgotten what it once did to survive such arrivals. You are not here by prophecy. You are here because you were present when the light began to dim, and you know exactly what is worth saving. Corrupted shadows first, then things that blot out the sun. Pick up your blade and your charms. The prey has decided to become the hunter. . . . WHAT TO EXPECT AT THIS TABLE Cozy to Catastrophic: This campaign earns its darkness. The warmth is real before it is threatened, and what threatens it is enormous. Living Mythology: I am Shinto-Buddhist, raised in Japan and living in Thailand. These spirits and this sacred relationship between humanity and the natural world are not a setting I am visiting. They are at this table in every session. Theatrical Roleplay: Every village elder, wandering spirit, and ancient terrible thing stirring beneath the island has a fully voiced presence you will remember long after the session ends. Three-Act Arc: Three fully self-contained adventures, each five to six hours. Come for one or book all three for the complete arc. . . . PREPARATION: Character creation draws from 5e core alongside the player options in Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass and Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms. Owning either book is recommended but not required. This table welcomes veterans and first-time players equally. We will build your character together before the first session. You will arrive ready. What I ask is simple: come willing to fall in love with a place, and come ready to fight for it. TECHNICAL LOGISTICS: Foundry VTT for tactical play and immersive visuals. Discord for voice coordination. I will send the link once you have joined a game. Discord: Send a friend request to saithefae and server access will follow upon joining. The island is warm. Come fall in love with it. Then help us save it.

About me

Hi, I'm Yuthika, but most people at the table call me Fey. I have been a GM for 34 years, starting at age 12 in Asia, where my introduction to the hobby came not through the mainstream but through Call of Cthulhu and Sword World. That Japanese TableTalk culture, テーブルトークRPG, is the DNA of everything I run: focused, atmospheric, and deeply immersive. I am also a voice actress with anime and video game credits, and every NPC at this table has a distinct voice and personality to match. I learned this craft in the crunchy crucible of the early 90s, and that history informs how I choose systems and build stories rather than force one into the other. Professionally I hold a PhD in Psychology and work as an educator. Whether I am managing a classroom or a VTT in deep space, I bring a teacher's patience and a designer's eye to every session. Every player at my table gets character-specific hooks woven into the narrative. You will feel seen here. I am also a TTRPG designer and co-creator of Visions of Suaykalpa, an upcoming Southeast Asian mythology RPG launching on Kickstarter this year.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters are built using the 5e core rulebooks, Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass, and Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realm. Standard array only. This is a campaign where who your character is matters far more than what their numbers say. Obojima offers subclasses, species, backgrounds, feats, and spells drawn from the island's mystical lore, and all of it is on the table. Whether you want to brew magical concoctions in your belly, channel the magic of theater by swapping enchanted masks mid-scene, or call forth wind and blossoms to shield your allies, there is a character here for every kind of player. Ryoko's Guide adds additional species and abilities for those drawn to the darker edges of the mythology. Come with a concept, a spirit you feel connected to, or nothing at all. I will walk you through every option. For those who want to step straight onto the island I will have pre-generated characters ready. Just pick one and start exploring.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Foundry VTT account and Discord. That is how we run the island. I cover all hosting and supply every material you will need at the table. Nothing stands between you and arriving ready to step into the tall grass. Please send a friend request on Discord only after you have a confirmed seat, unless you have questions that need answering beforehand. The island is warm and the spirits are watching. Best to know what you are stepping into before the grass closes behind you.

What Yuthika 'Fey' brings to the table

I bring character voices, ambient music, high-grade maps, and layered ambiance designed to pull you deep into the misty, lantern-lit warmth of Obojima and the creeping darkness stirring beneath it. Every session is built to make you feel the weight of both; the particular joy of a world that loves you back, and the dread of watching something begin to corrupt it. I am a teaching GM, which means new adventurers are not just tolerated here, they are welcomed. Come with nothing more than a vibe or a spirit you feel drawn to, an aesthetic, a reason your character came to the island. I will walk you through the rest. This is not folklore to me. I am Shinto Theravada Buddhist. The spirits of this world, the sacred relationship between the living and the unseen, the weight of a natural world rising in pain and anger; these are things I understand from the inside. I am also the co-creator and CCO of Visions of Suaykalpa, a Southeast Asian mythology TTRPG currently in development. Bringing authentic cultural and spiritual weight to Asian-inspired settings is not flavour at this table. It is the foundation. Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass is a 365-page campaign setting packed with new rules for character creation, subclasses, equipment, exploration, and combat, (Itch.io) and every page of it has a home at this table. Both books are available if you want your own copies. Support the people who built these worlds.

Homebrew rules

The 5e core rulebooks, Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass, and Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realm are the foundation of this table and the only materials in use as a baseline. Homebrew is welcome under one condition: it must be rooted in genuine Asian folklore or mythology and it requires my approval before play. I am Shinto Theravada Buddhist and the co-creator of Visions of Suaykalpa, a Southeast Asian mythology TTRPG rooted in living tradition. Authenticity is not a preference at this table. It is a standard. The spirit world is vast and no single book can map all of it. If you find something out in the wild that speaks to the character you want to play, bring it to Session 0. It should honor the traditions it draws from, fit the tone of the island, and not break the table. Clear all three and there is likely a place for it in the tall grass.

Safety

How Yuthika 'Fey' creates a safe table

Your Safety Matters Obojima is a world of warmth, wonder, and genuine joy; and this campaign begins there. But the Corruption is real, and where Ryoko's Guide enters the picture, the darkness has teeth. This campaign deals with creeping environmental horror, the corruption and transformation of beloved things, body horror adjacent imagery, grief, loss, and the particular weight of watching something sacred come under threat. These themes are handled with care and with the respect they deserve, and I take player wellbeing seriously throughout. Before we begin we will use Lines and Veils. You will have the opportunity to set hard limits on content that should never appear at the table, as well as topics you would prefer kept off-screen rather than depicted directly. These are respected without question and without explanation needed. My table operates on an Open Door Policy. At any point, if the content becomes too much, you are always free to step away, take a break, or leave the session entirely without judgment. No questions asked. Real people always come before the game. During our sessions I will check in regularly, especially after heavier scenes. The shift in tone this campaign takes is intentional and gradual, but when the darkness arrives it arrives with weight. If things get heavy, we breathe first and play second. At the close of every session we run Roses and Thorns, a chance for everyone to share what landed and what didn't, keeping this a collaborative and comfortable table throughout. After each session I will also follow up privately. Sometimes things land differently once you have stepped away from the island and had time to decompress, and I want everyone to have space to raise anything they didn't feel comfortable mentioning at the table. The tall grass is beautiful. It should stay that way. When in doubt, just say the word.
