About the adventure

Free one-shot! So what is a mimir? A magical construct designed to provide information. A most valuable aid in the exploration of the Outer Planes. Interested in planewalking but not sure where to start? Take a walk with us. From waking up in a vast mortuary run by the undead for the undead, to connecting with your inner animal on the Beastlands, to tagging along as the Great Modron March bumbles into the Upper Planes, to signing a contract to retrieve a lost weapons shipment from the worst battlefield in the neverending Blood War, the planes are wide and full of wonders. Won't you come and take a look? Sure, it can seem daunting having the entire multiverse as a backdrop, but more than that, Planescape is a mood: a little bleak but a lot whimsical, rubbing shoulders with beings several CR ratings above you and wondering what gives gods the right, looking at the view from the top of the Infinite Spire and knowing there's a portal just around the corner to anywhere you might want to go. Most sessions will be run at level 5, but with the occasional higher or lower-level venture. Feel free to join multiple sessions with the same character or try out new builds!

About me

Longtime player and mod/DM of both tabletop and play-by-post games, looking to create a fun, social, character-centric table with a mix of official material and player-directed questing. I've been RPing for most of life at this point, starting with playing and modding on play-by-post forums, playing and GMing tabletop for about half of that time. I'm a big fan of Planescape (the AD&D setting and Torment), Dark Sun, Ravenloft, the World of Darkness, Gamma World, Dungeon World, Discworld, Super Mario World, Cowboy Bebop, Hellboy, and Sam and Max, and more recently I've gotten hooked on the adventures of the Mighty Nein -- to give you some idea of the flavour of game I'm likely to run. I love long-term subplots that take ages to pan out and tend not to be big on powergaming. If that sounds like a good fit, let me know. If I'm not running the game for you right now, maybe I will be in the future. Cheers!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters begin at level 5. Any first- or third-party material from dndbeyond comes pre-approved, but talk to me about your wild homebrew and stuff from DM's Guild and elsewhere. Roll stats (just the once, please) or use point buy!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We'll be playing by voice and text chat over Discord (https://discord.com). For your fellow players' sakes, please have a good quality mic and headset tested and installed -- I'm available for troubleshooting help if needed! Owlbear Rodeo (https://owlbear.rodeo) will be used for maps and exploration, and you'll need an account on DnD Beyond (https://dndbeyond.com) to create and update your character.

What Jay brings to the table

Expect a variety of character voices, a backing playlist, lots of roleplay opportunities, and combat scenarios where taking the enemy head-on is only one option out of many.

Safety

How Jay creates a safe table

Please include any hard Lines or tricky Veils or triggers to me when joining, and we can make the X/N/O cards visual, verbal, or part of the chat as players prefer. I maintain an open door policy and I'll always be available after session for cooldown and aftercare if desired.
