About the adventure

In the 1930's, your hard-boiled group of Pulp heroes from all walks of life will take the fight to the enemy, a race of beings from before our recorded history who want to take the world back for their own. This campaign spans the globe, and will require all of your many skills and team work to overcome an enemy who has had millennia to plan. This is a beginner friendly campaign. Pulp Cthulhu is an action packed sub-genre for Call of Cthulhu. Your heroes are hardy and capable, ready to take the fight to horrors that would lay low any standard Call of Cthulhu investigator.

About me

My name is Chris and I've been running games consistently for the past ten years, with periodic games for the fifteen years prior. My preferred systems are World of Darkness and Call of Cthulhu, and I currently run games of both Vampire: The Masquerade and Call of Cthulhu for friends. I also have a few years experience with Mage: The Awakening, 2nd Edition. My games have run from one-shots to multi-year campaigns. While I have run modules, such as Masks of Nyarlathotep or Horror on the Orient Express, my games are primarily written by myself. I much prefer theater of the mind to miniatures and tactical games.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place in session 0, along with a brief overview of what to expect and how to use rolls and character sheets in Foundry. We will use point buy for attributes and the system will walk you through character creation step by step.

The current party

During session 0 we'll craft characters. I ask that we avoid psychic powers, but the other pulp talents are on the table. This campaign has a solid amount of both investigation and combat, but we'll be using the red-line technique to jet between scenes and keep a good pace.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will require access to Discord for safety tools and group communication. A free account on Forge will be needed to access the game itself. You will need a webcam and microphone for video/voice during the game.

What Chris - Reif Dantes brings to the table

For this Pulp Cthulhu campaign I will be making use of Foundry, complete with maps, 3d dice, lighting and some automation of the game mechanics. This style of Cthulhu has a notable amount of combat alongside the roleplay. The Cthulhu chase mechanics can become somewhat cumbersome, so we'll be loose with how we handle any chases.

Homebrew rules

Chases will be handled far more loosely than in the core rules. While we're playing Cthulhu, you'll find I'm your biggest fan and want you to succeed. This is not an adversarial game, me vs. you. We're in this to have fun.

Safety

How Chris - Reif Dantes creates a safe table

On Discord I will keep a dynamic document of safety topics, both what we need to approach carefully and what is out of bounds. Any player can add to it for any reason. During play we will make use of the X card system. A player can call for a pause to back off of a topic or situation and we will handle it with the appropriate level of care to make sure we're all having a comfortable good time.
