About the adventure
As seniors in high school, you and your classmates are on a senior trip to the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park circa 2002. Also known as the Permian Basin Super Organism (PBSO), this wonder of the world is one of a kind, hosts entirely unique flora and fauna, presents strange biomes, and is an active mining operation with Anodyne Corporation. You and your high school classmates are on a half-day tour when things don't go as planned! MFPNP RPG uses the Cypher system, a d20 roll with difficulty that you can modify by expending effort from a pool of resources. And you'll need to push yourself to: 🧭 navigate flowing digestive fluids, 🦐 confront arthropoidal megafauna, 🧗♂️ overcome unique topographical features, and 🚜 operate the mining equipment of Anondyne Corporation! This adventure is sort of a Magic School Bus story with disaffected teens mostly checked out before they ditch high school for good! Channel all that 2000s era angst or play as the teacher or guide just trying to keep everyone safe! Mystery Flesh Pit National Park is a collaborative fiction and now an RPG! The fiction covers its mid-century discovery and mining, to its renown for bioelectronic research, to its history as a national park, and the catastrophe that shuddered its public access to today. This particular modern story pre-dates the disaster that closed the park.

About me
I go by the Gentle GM. Even in the midst of death-defying adventure or bone-chilling horror, I aim to be a warm and welcoming game master. I've run games for children and teens, seniors, and all ages in between. LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC players can expect respect at my tables. Safety tools such as the X Card are always part of my table, with longer campaigns using Lines & Veils and other tools. I suffuse hope, respect, and warmth into every session I run. I offer: 🏳️🌈 A welcoming, inclusive play style 🔥 Player-focused flair and action 🧭 Open-ended storytelling 🎭 Action, horror, awe, and comedy in-game ⚖️ Settings with themes of justice and transformation 📆 Over a decade of game mastering experience 🖋️ Know-how with dozens of systems At thirteen, two friends and I huddled around the Dungeons & Dragons 3e starter set, laughing at a natural 20 to breakdown a door with the fighter's head. In high school, I found the Call of Cthulhu rulebook and made investigators with friends, still clueless how to actually play. In 2014 with the launch of D&D 5e and Call of Cthulhu 7e, I committed to running these games and an old love sparked brilliantly to life! I've since taught dozens their first TTRPG! I'm an inveterate dabbler in TTRPGs. If you're curious if I run a particular game, just ask! If I have enthusiastic players, I'm also up to the challenge to try something new. I'm running games full-time, so you can expect preparation and dedication at my table. A local game cafe and local bars also host me for game events and game mastering workshops. My newsletter and itch page also share game design reflections and projects. Images are used with permission from James' RPG Art, https://jamesrpgart.com.

Creating your character
Pregenerated characters will be available. These have been slightly customized from the MFPNP RPG rulebook, but still use the Cypher System rules.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need: 1) Discord profile and to join the Gentle GM server 2) A mic and headphones (webcam is encouraged, but not required) Players can use physical dice if they prefer. Discord also offers Dice Golem for dice rolling. This game will be theater of the mind without a virtual tabletop (VTT). However, graphics and handouts will be provided.
What Caleb | The Gentle GM brings to the table
My players say it better than I can: "Caleb’s tables feel inclusive and safe. I love how he encourages player creativity. He tailors his games to the play group, so they are the right level of challenging and the right balance of battles and social encounters." - Cindy "I've been part of multiple table-top gaming groups in the past 10 years and Caleb's storytelling, world-building, knowledge of different systems, and ability to create an inclusive, safe space for every single player at the table is (and I say this with my whole chest) exceptional. If you are looking for a GM that will support, encourage, and wrap you up in the most amazing worlds, Caleb is that GM." - Jenna "When you sit down to play a game at one of his tables, you feel like you interact with the world and story better than I have felt anywhere else... it's like being given the keys to your dad's classic car on date night. Every game with Caleb is a breath of fresh air." - Matt You can expect: A story defined by the player characters and your choices Patience and support in moments of uncertainty Colorful characters and fantastical settings Theatrical acting for side characters with a touch of voiceacting Celebration of character success and plot beats Respect and consideration of my players and their consent

How Caleb | The Gentle GM creates a safe table
Safety Tools are always part of my table and briefing on them is part of every one shot session. Commands in Discord will be observed, including: - X: X Card pauses play and creates a break. As your GM, I'll rewind or otherwise determine how best to return to the action. - Rw or Rewind: Rewind a scene that included content that you do not feel is appropriate. - Ff or Fastforward: Jump ahead to the next scene to bypass sensitive content. You can expect PG-13 style teen endangerment and hijinks, but the scenario isn't likely to see much violence. Especially poor decision making or dice rolls may endanger our teenage characters, though death is not expected.
