About the adventure

The country is practically held hostage, as the strait running east to west finds itself blocked by a floating city of interlocked ships, including naval vessels, pirates, and long-trapped merchants. Past the blockade, the city of Alaeçpyr finds 2 generations worth of nobles and capitalmen unable to return home after several years of being held as political prisoners. Children have been raised, displaced from their homes, some even accepted as Alaeçe citizens, but still no-one let to sail down the Strait. But now, almost 30 years into the blockade's domination of the country's waters, an effort is mounting to the east, to assemble a naval fleet strong enough to reclaim the strait and retake Alaeçpyr, putting an end to their standstill rebellion. Take to one of the shores of Cormorair and take up arms in a fight which has known no reprieve. Which side will you fight for? The rebels seeking autonomy and independence, the profiteering sailors seeking freedom on the water, or the nationalist sailors fighting for their honor? "The Hands That Draw the Steel" is a long-term homebrew campaign set in an overarching homebrew world. This setting in particular is inspired by the Age of Sail. Imagine a setting inspired by the Britannia Royal Navy, Spanish Musketeers, and the East India Company, thrust into an anachronistic fantasy setting filled to the brim with intrigue, themes of romance and betrayal. Imagine "Pirates of the Caribbean", meets "The Princess Bride", and then make it Political Fantasy! Travel from far and wide toward the Hands That Draw the Steel to see if you can't gain footing within the Sailway Strait for whichever faction you might serve. The Capsmoot awaits, in this swashbuckling fantasy setting!

About me

Hello there! I'm Fitz (they/he), and I have been a GM for about 10 years—4 of those professionally. I run weekly paid games, high concept one-shots, and have built up quite the tight-knit community over at what we like to call "Also Dragons". Most of the campaigns I run take place in an overarching homebrew setting, spanning different genres, corners of the world, and differing types of magic and technology. Together they paint a larger picture, each player adding a brushstroke.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur in call, to allow for discussion of potential backstory connections and to allow consistency with the rest of the party. Nothing worse than a player making a character they are passionate about only to find that it's not a good fit for the setting or the party! There are some other details around equipment and house rules that will be elaborated on in Session Zero and may inform some player choices!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Stable, reliable internet connection and audio quality required. Video preferred but totally optional. We will be using D&DBeyond for character sheets, and Discord for voice, video, campaign tracking, and battlemaps.

What Fitz♦️🍏Also Dragons brings to the table

I have access to all official content on D&DBeyond as well as animated battle maps which we will be using via a screensharing VTT method. I prefer this approach as I feel it best emulates an at-the-table feel and reduces the amount of tabs and things for people to keep track of!

Safety

How Fitz♦️🍏Also Dragons creates a safe table

Session Zero allows the players to take the floor, ask questions about the setting, make requests for content they would (or would not) like to see. We will get you oriented with the Also Dragons server, discuss house rules and general community dynamic, and go through content-consent checklists to gauge levels of comfortability with subject matter that may (but will likely not) arise.
