About the adventure

In the center of the Moonshea Isles stands the capitol of the Ffolk, there the Harpers have called an open meeting to investigate the portals terrorizing the Sea of Swords. Strange creatures never seen before are popping up on the islands, water spilling in and out of these portals are disturbing the ecosystem. Parties sent to investigate have not returned, and no one knows who is causing these portals or why. Nor can anyone figure out when the portals lead, climates are strange on the other-side, creatures both magical and mundane are spilling out into the realm. While the portals seem to have stayed local to the isles recent reports are showing them popping up closer and closer to the Sword Coast. Someone needs to stop them, someone needs to solve the mystery and save Faerun from this madness. This is a classic fantasy adventure set in the mystical world of Faerun, along the Sword Coast with a prehistoric twist. Dinosaurs both magical and mundane are terrorizing the isles and the surrounding seas. Explore not only the Forgotten Realms that we know and love but travel in time millions of years into the past to solve the mystery of the Mad Chronoficer. Explore fantastic environments based on earth prehistory with a magical twist. Ancient settlements long before even the elves themselves walked Toril, gigantic beasts rivaling dragons in every biomes, new plants and other wondrous animals, and epic environmental activity which hasn't been seen in millions of years! Can your party survive the wilds? Will you be able to stop the Mad Chronoficer before they unleash further terror on Faerun? And most of all, can you make sure that nothing you do in the past changes the future? Epic quest inspired by the fantastic 5e supplement by Paleo Games; Dr Dhrolin's Dictionary of Dinosaurs. I will have supplemental information, art, and much more provided from the team to help run and help you play this all in digital formats. Hope to see you in the game! First session with be free to meet the party, go over our session zero elements and make sure we can set up the best game possible for all.

About me

They call me Riou or Josh. I have been DMing 5e for a little over 5 years using multiple tools from DnD Beyond to TaleSpire and more. I have been an avid fantasy and sci-fi reader since I was a child as well as a hobby writer for many many years. I enjoy the collaborative play of TTRPGs I own multiple systems including Starfinder, BESM, and the newly formed Discworld system. I love playing games with new players and vets alike. I love world building and detailed scene building as well. Game preparation is one of the things I love the most to do in my free time as well as going over my dozens of source books. I like in universe books and making homemade worlds. I like to use a mix of media to run online games as well as running it through discord so that it is easy to have all the information and interaction in one place and archived. Full inclusive experience and happy to share my books and tools with anyone at my table. I believe the rules have a place in every game while also believing flexibility is the key to having the greatest stories shine through.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can come with pre-made characters up to level 3, but it will most likely be best to make characters together in session 0 as it will be free and we can get to know each other and our play styles. This isn't a pre-built adventure so we can tailor your characters and by some degree the game itself together. We will keep it simple for stats and do the point buy system. Will be using all 5e source books for characters excluding Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica & Acquisitions Incorporated. I have PDFs to share with any player at my table through Google Drive so there will be no worry on anyone not having supplements. We can use paper/digital character sheets or DnD Beyond for use of characters. If all are using DnD Beyond we can use that for campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have discord is the only required step, next is a DnD Beyond account if you like that format, I will provide any form fillable sheets if you require and if you don't have dice I can recommend dozens of awesome dice rollers. Discord will be the easiest place to voice chat, share screens & maps as well as recaps. That said I will host a discord server for us all to use. This will help me share supplements as well with players that don't have access. As said before paper/digital character sheets or DnD Beyond ones are fine depending on preference of the group.

What Riou / Josh brings to the table

I expect everyone to behave like adults, silly and chaotic adults, but point still. I want to have fun, have everyone's story and ideas heard and keep the game going for us all to have the amazing hobby we know and love. I don't tolerate any hate or anything of the like. We can disagree, of course, but we do it in a way that is helpful and fruitful. I will use voices to the best of my abilities, especially to keep the characters from becoming stale background scenes. I adore creating and describing elaborate environments for players to explore and inquire about. I see combat as a required tool in many cases but I don't let combat dictate my encounters. Not every encounter is combat but every combat is an encounter. I prefer dynamic environments so players can use tact and invention to solve problems. Even combat has more than one end game and I think that brings a sense of wonder to the whole process. As far as Rule of Cool or Rules as Written I think the game should be dynamic and inventive so I see the Rules as the tool and the Cool as the point. Bare bones we are making a story and should be having fun. I have access to music though I'd be a liar if I said I always remember. Maps and art? That I have plenty! I love making it, commissioning it and everything in-between. I will always be happy to share it.

Homebrew rules

If an issue comes up in the rules we can homebrew as a group, but there are a few I have found over the years to make the game play more interestingly. Homebrew is simple and as follows; - Drinking a potion is a bonus action. - Exhaustion; 10 levels, -1 to every d20 check/attack (and spell save DC) per level, you die at 10. - Sorcerers can be CON casters (don't have to be). - Warlocks can me INT casters (don't have to be).

Safety

How Riou / Josh creates a safe table

Safety is important that is upfront. I will have a questionnaire to send out for all players for anything they want told to me that is out of bounds and they don't want to speak publicly. Most things will be gone over in Session 0 so we can all know what we need as a group together. Important note, my DMs are always open to players before, after, AND during the session. Never be afraid to send me a message to put a hold on anything or discuss how life is causing an issue in game or anything. I am happy to adjust anytime, on the fly if needed. Also good note anyone can call a mental health break at any time, PERIOD. I have a scattering of content warnings of things that could come up in nearly any game, but anything can be pivoted and anyone is welcome to let me know that something is too sensitive. I like the Red, Green, Yellow light system as it is simple, nonspecific, and fast. Can be said aloud, DMed, or simply held on a card if video is on. I will always make time for the whole group or one on one time after the session with anyone who needs it just in case. And of course I am always open to feedback (Stars & Wishes) publicly or in private. I want a safe inclusive and fun game for anyone and everyone. We are an adventuring party and we take care of our own!
