About the adventure

Welcome to the Barovian Desert, a forsaken stretch of frontier where the mists roll in thicker than gunsmoke and never quite leave. This land was much different centuries ago, but that place died the night Strahd von Zarovich claimed it all in blood. The pale-eyed oil baron rode into the valley searching for riches, but he dug too deep and found something more sinister. He built his sprawling black-stone ranch house—Ravenloft—high on Hangman's Bluff, overlooking every miserable settlement from the dry riverbeds to the ghost-haunted badlands. No one leaves his land unless he deems them worthy. You are drifters, bounty hunters, ex-sheriffs, snake-oil preachers, displaced natives, or desperate homesteaders who crossed the wrong ridge at the wrong time. The mists took you. Now you're trapped in this pocket of eternal dusk where the sun never quite rises high enough to burn away the nightmares. Draw your iron, check your silver bullets, and pray the mists let you ride out before the Devil Baron decides your face belongs on a wanted poster… or worse, on his wall. Yee-haw, partners.

About me

*Interested in joining a session but the timeslot is a bit off? Just let me know and I'd be happy to adjust the time* Hi, I'm Zac, forever DM of multiple friend groups since 2020, with multiple campaigns seen through to conclusion. No matter if you’re a beginner or a seasoned vet, as long as you’re excited and willing to learn and play, I’m happy to be your guide into the TTRPG space. I’m mostly familiar with D&D 5e, but I’ve had full campaigns of Blades in the Dark, Daggerheart, the AlienRPG, as well as many goofy one shots a la Honey Heist and Crash Pandas. If after a session, the DMing calls to you, I’m also happy to give my two cents at any time in the future. The world needs more DMs for their friends groups :)

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a quick 30 minute discord call before the first session as a soft session 0. This is where we can meet each other for the first time, go through ground rules and build our characters on Roll20. For new players, I will go through the basics of character creation here, and work with you to make a character you're happy with. Please think of the following when creating your character: - Do they have prior history with anyone else in the party? - If they start out as a loner type character, how will they warm up to the group?

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a Discord and Roll20 account ready. If you are new to TTRPGs, I recommend watching videos on good player behavior rather than D&D rules videos, as that is more important for having fun at the table.

What Zac brings to the table

The campaign will be more focused on the character stories rather than hard rules of the game. Aim of my games is to have everyone leave the table with a cool story to take back home. NPC interactions are one of my favorite parts of role playing so expect kooky characters with inconsistent accents throughout the adventure :) If there's something you want to do an action that makes sense in the moment but not in the game rules, I'll more than likely allow a one off breaking the rules moment to tell a better story. If you have any questions about the game rules, the lore of the world or anything else about ttrpgs, I'm always happy to help.

Homebrew rules

Character creation and level ups: - If you want to roll for stats, you can roll twice and pick your preferred set of results - For max hp increase on level up, roll for the increase, and if you roll below the average, you can just take the average. Gameplay: - Inspiration can be shared with each other - For rolls that require specific knowledge, only characters with proficiency in that skill will be allowed to roll. Other players may still help and give advantage.

Safety

How Zac creates a safe table

If at any point in time you feel uncomfortable at the table for any reason, please feel free to send me a discord message and we can take a break to discuss the issue. If you feel uncomfortable specifically at the current scene, you can also send me a simple "x" and we can fade to black and skip it.
