About the adventure
The line between high fantasy and science fiction draws ever closer, and the kingdom of Alora needs heroes that can guide them to a better future! Age of Progression is a homebrew world and setting that primarily uses rules from the 2024 5th Edition books, but allows content from both the 2014 rules as well as homebrew approved by the DM. As advancements in technology and magic are pushed to their absolute limits, someone or something in the background is trying to tip the scales. Will these improvements be used for good? Or will the forces at work twist them into a world-ending war...

About me
Hello~! I have been playing D&D for a few years now, going from 3.5, 4e, 5e, Pathfinder, and everything in between. I believe that the enjoyment of the players is more important than following rules to a tee, and as such I have a more laid-back style of DMing. I aim to be fair with as many opinions as possible, and willing to roll with ideas as long as they make the story interesting~

Creating your character
First you will pick a species. If you are not satisfied with one of the core races, or something can't be tweaked to work from 2014, then there will be a guide for you to work with the DM to create your preferred species. Next you will create a custom background. I personally think that choosing the premade backgrounds from the 2024 Player's Guide is too brutal (like, ONLY farmers can be tough?). That, and where someone was raised can drastically change how they view the world just from a technological standpoint, so creativity is welcome. After that you may roll for your STATs, use the Point Buy system, or use the Standard Array. When rolling for STATs (preferably through Discord's Avrae Bot) rolls that include two scores at or above 14 are accepted. If the roll really stinks I may ask you to either re-roll or use one of the other options. When it comes to choosing a class, I am not picky about keeping a 'balanced party', so it's encouraged to play whatever you like. Just like with the species, homebrew content is allowed, but it's a lot more strict than before. The DM, as well as the other players have to agree to allow any homebrew classes. Nobody wants to play if something is broken or overpowered. If a homebrew class revolves around a single item or gimmick, then you can ask the DM if you could incorporate that element into the game rather than break the immersion of everyone else.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players at least need to have a Discord account and a Roll20 account.
What lXlGamemaster brings to the table
As the DM I encourage creativity over strict guidelines. Sure, some things will be shot down for overreaching, but asking is better than not expressing the idea at all. I am also willing to work with you to add content such as worldbuilding, game mechanics, and unconventional items and weapons. As long as there's enough ground for it to exist, and everyone is content with having it, then I don't see why it can't happen. I have the physical Player's Handbook, DMG, and Monster Manual, as well as a map-making software that allows me to make custom battle maps to use with Roll20.
Homebrew rules
Held potions can be drunken as a bonus action or thrown up to 20 ft. as a standard action to heal a specific creature. Feeding a potion to an unconscious creature is a standard action, and you are discouraged from throwing a potion at an unconscious creature that is within 5 ft. of you~ Creatures are able to flank the players and vice versa, and it is encouraged that you keep track of where your character is facing in combat. Abilities that parry or deflect attacks are going to be less likely to hit if you aren't aware that they're happening in the first place. Players are allowed to move through an ally creature's space without difficulty, so long as you don't end your movement there (if you are a medium-sized creature). There are also no penalties for moving diagonally. Crafting and foraging are also rules that I play with, and are super simplified for convenience. After using a skill to find crafting materials you are given a number of X supplies. With those supplies, ask the DM if you can make something, and I'll say whether you can and how long it will take. Proficiencies with artisan's tools will either increase the number of supplies gathered or decrease the time spent crafting, and the more people working on one project the quicker it will go! That way combat classes like Fighters and Barbarians can help, and Artificers and Druids can actually craft magic items in their spare time.

How lXlGamemaster creates a safe table
If anyone has any problems they are encouraged to reach out to me through DM's in Discord. If something makes you uncomfortable I will do my best to solve the issue. At the end of every session I will ask everyone what their thoughts were, if they have any concerns, and what I can do to improve the game as we go on.
