About the adventure

The Golden Vault is an organization shrouded in mystery; those who heard of it often think it's a folk tale, while others praise it for doing what needs to be done where the law will not allow. Those in the know are aware that the organization rights moral wrongs, supports virtuous underdogs, and handles delicate situations local authorities won’t touch. The Golden Vault’s motto reflects its primary motivation: “Do good, no matter the cost.” As the newest recruits, you're all aware that missions from the Golden Vault are often illegal, but they always support a just, moral cause. Its members are near undetectable in their civilian lives, but this works to their advantage when it comes to protecting the multiverse. Each of you has been enlisted into the Golden Vault, where players have a chance to change their lives. For those seeking fortune, they will find it. Looking for strength? Can it be earned? Fame, friends, and adventure are all at your fingertips. All you have to do is pick up your key and complete your missions. The golden vault is an espionage-themed adventure that will be focused on high roleplay as players complete various missions. There will be engaging combat throughout the adventure as well as colorful world-building. This adventure is perfect for creative players of all levels.

About me

My name’s Unicorn, and I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons for about six years now, mostly as a Dungeon Master. I run roleplay-heavy campaigns where character stories take center stage, and I love weaving players’ backstories into the world so everyone feels like their character truly belongs in it. I’m a big believer in the Rule of Cool. If it’s creative, cinematic, or just plain awesome, I’ll find a way to make it happen. My goal is to give everyone their moments to shine and to build something unforgettable together. At my table, collaboration comes first; we’re not just playing a game, we’re co-creating a story full of emotion, adventure, and magic.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done before the session with the following criteria: - Stats are rolled in Roll 20 with the macro provided in the Discord - 2014 character creation rules and take one feat to start - Create your character sheet in the provided D&D Beyond campaign - We are starting at level one

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To prepare, please do the following 1. Join this Discord server and introduce yourself 2. Fill out the lines and veils found in your private channel 3. Schedule a session 0 with the DM 4. Join the campaign on Roll20 & D&D Beyond 5. Please ensure you have the Beyond 20 extension

What Unicorn brings to the table

I will be providing players with maps and music to help enhance storytelling and immersion. Each player will have access to my compendium on D&D Beyond, and I will be creating tokens for the players to utilize on Roll20. I will also be providing between-session roleplay opportunities that are optional but available and highly encouraged for players to participate in at their leisure.

Homebrew rules

Nat 20 rules: - On a save, if you get a nat 20 you take no damage - On initiative, if you get a nat 20 you react so quickly, you get a surprise attack round - On a save for an effect, you become immune to that effect (ie if something were to poison you, you are immune to that effect for the scene) - If you get a nat 20 on initiative, you get a surprise round - On an attack, you do max damage plus normal rolled damage Potion Rules: - Administering a potion to someone else is an action - Drinking a potion is a bonus action - Passing a potion to someone else is a bonus action Talking During Combat: - Talking is a free action unless you are trying to accomplish something. If you wish to make a roll to achieve that goal, it is an action. Leveled Spells: - You may use multiple leveled spells on a turn, so long as they are within the player's action economy (i.e. You can cast guiding bolt as an action and healing word as a bonus action on the same turn) Rolling: - You may use physical dice as long as you call out what you have rolled

Safety

How Unicorn creates a safe table

We will be using X, N, & O cards that will be direct messaged to the DM for discretion. We also have breaks as needed throughout the session, with a minimum of one break per session. At the end of the session, the group participates in a debriefing to check in on how everyone is feeling, likes, dislikes, and what they want to see more or less of. Each player will have a private channel they are welcome to use to communicate with the DM directly. It is there to keep an open door and encourage a safe space for communication. In that channel, there will be a link to the lines and veils document that each player is required to fill out before they are able to sit at the table. In session zero, we will review the collective anonymous lines and veils for the table as well as how to utilize each of the safety tools.
