About the adventure

Phandalin is a frontier town where wonder and danger walk the same winding roads, and where every lantern-lit evening feels like the start of a story worth telling. The land is dotted with forgotten ruins, half-buried secrets, and traces of ancient magic waiting to be rediscovered, not by legendary heroes, but by ordinary people bold enough to step into the unknown together. This game leans into mystery without ever losing its warmth. Strange symbols carved into stone, whispered rumours of something stirring beneath the hills, and clues left behind by those who vanished long ago invite players to explore with curiosity rather than fear. Yet at the heart of it all is camaraderie: shared campfires, unlikely friendships, and the sense that the world becomes brighter when you face it side by side. Adventures unfold through exploration, teamwork, and the joy of uncovering what lies just out of sight. Combat exists, but it’s the bonds between characters, the choices they make, and the discoveries they share that shape the story. Whether you’re new to D&D or returning after years away, this game offers a welcoming space to wonder, to laugh, and to chase mysteries that feel as old as the stones beneath your feet.

About me

I’ve been DMing Dungeons & Dragons for nearly five years, but the fascination started much earlier. When I was about ten, I discovered my dad’s old AD&D books tucked away in my nan’s loft. The artwork, the strange creatures, the promise of whole worlds inside a rulebook—it stuck with me. In 2021 I finally joined an online group and quickly found myself behind the screen as the Dungeon Master. Since then, creating adventures and watching players shape the story has become one of my favourite things to do. For me, D&D is collaborative storytelling at its best: I build the world, you decide what to do in it, and together we discover what happens next. I genuinely love having to rip up my notes mid session as everything goes.....different Outside the game I work helping people find employment and new opportunities and a history in Learning and Development, with global awards a testament to my ability of fostering inclusive environments. At my table you can expect: • A welcoming and inclusive table where new and experienced players alike can enjoy the game • Player-driven storytelling where your choices genuinely shape the world • Immersive worldbuilding filled with memorable NPCs, mysteries, and consequences • A balance of roleplay, exploration, and combat depending on what the group enjoys most Away from the screen I’m a happily married father to one human child and three very demanding furry ones. Fantasy has always been a huge part of my life, from books and films to music and, of course, D&D. There’s something magical about stepping into another world for a few hours and telling a story together. If you’re looking for a game where your character matters, your choices have weight, and the goal is simply to have a great adventure together, you’ll fit right in.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done at session 0 when all players are sat around together. This is to avoid potential mismatch, to see if there are any connections between characters. It's also a good time to be able to ask any all questions in one open forum than lots of messages before hand and avoiding any crossed wires. You will be starting at level 1 and we will be using point buy for stats.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to have an account on a video conferencing software. My preference is Discord but am more than open to looking at Microsoft Teams, Zoom or other platform.

What Michael brings to the table

This campaign is easy for any group to jump into, and I aim to make the world feel alive and connected to your characters. Your choices will matter, and the story will grow around the things you care about. I use ambient music and simple character voices to help set the mood. I’m not a trained actor, but I use tone and personality to make NPCs feel distinct and to bring scenes to life. Combat can be tactical, but there’s always room to ask questions and look for creative ways to use the environment. I follow the Rule of Cool when it makes a moment more fun, while still keeping the rules clear and fair. I’ll make rulings as needed, and we can talk through anything between sessions if something feels unclear. The table is built on trust, kindness, and shared storytelling. Everyone should feel welcome, whether you’re brand new or experienced. The goal is to explore, work together, and build a story full of wonder and mystery.
