About the adventure
1990s, Dunbridge, Scotland. At the center of the unfolding events lies a mystery surrounding the ghost of Martha Ferguson, a murdered woman whose lingering presence has become more than a simple haunting. What first appears to be a singular tragedy quickly reveals itself as part of a far larger and increasingly dangerous conspiracy - one that continues to grow in scope and significance. As Garou, you are drawn into this web not only to uncover the truth behind Martha Ferguson’s death, but to confront the deeper forces exploiting the thinning veil between worlds. The investigation will test your pack’s unity, your moral boundaries, and your relationship with both the spirit world and human society.

About me
Looking for a seasoned Scottish DM to bring your tabletop stories to life? I'm your guy. With over a decade of storytelling, worldbuilding, and DM experience, I specialise in crafting deep, character-driven campaigns that blend cinematic action, rich lore, and high-stakes drama. From D&D 5E (including a 4-year Curse of Strahd epic!) to the dark intrigues of Vampire: The Masquerade, the chaotic clashes of Lancer, and the mind-bending mysteries of Call of Cthulhu—I’ve run it all. I love what I do and I hope you get to enjoy it to. 🎙 Worked with streamers, voice actors, & internet-famous DMs 🎲 I want to focus tightly themed (20-session - or so) campaign seasons with immersive storytelling (think dimension 20). 🌍 Another objective is to establish multi-year collaborative world building and establishing a dedicated, long-term TTRPG group. Whether you want high fantasy, cyberpunk warfare, gothic horror, or superhero mayhem, I’ll bring atmosphere, tension, and unforgettable moments to every session. 🔥 Now booking new campaigns and taking suggestions – let’s roll some dice and make legends. 🔥 📩 DM me to join the next adventure.

Creating your character
Character Creation Session 0 & Pre-Game Setup – Character creation happens before the first session, with a dedicated Session 0 for finalizing details, discussing backstories, and establishing pack dynamics. Stat Generation – Players will distribute attribute and ability points using the standard Werewolf: The Apocalypse rules. I’ll guide new players through the process. Starting Rank – Rank 1 (Cliath), as this is a story about becoming a true pack and facing the supernatural unknown for the first time. Character sheets will be managed digitally on Foundry VTT, and I’m happy to assist with concepts or mechanics before the game starts!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Player Preparation Tech Requirements – Players need a mic (webcam optional) and access to Discord for voice chat. Foundry VTT will be used for gameplay—no download required, just a web browser. Accounts Needed – A Discord account and a Foundry VTT link (provided before the game). No additional subscriptions required. Rules Knowledge – Reading the Werewolf: The Apocalypse core book is encouraged but not required—I will guide new players through the mechanics. Character Prep – Players should come to Session 0 with a character concept (tribe, auspice, background ideas). Final stats and backstory will be completed together. No prior Werewolf experience needed—just bring creativity, a love for immersive storytelling, and a readiness to embrace the horror and mystery of the bayou!
What Story Teller Cairns brings to the table
What I Bring to the Table This campaign will be run with a focus on deep immersion, atmospheric horror, and dynamic storytelling. I aim to create a living, breathing world where player choices shape the unfolding mystery, and every session feels like a cinematic experience. 🖥️ Virtual Tabletop & Tools Foundry VTT – Fully set up with custom maps, lighting effects, animated weather, and interactive handouts. Digital Character Sheets – Easy tracking of stats, health, and Willpower. Thematic Music & Ambience – A curated soundscape featuring eerie swamp sounds, dark folk music, and tension-building tracks. Session Summaries & Recaps – After each session, I provide a short recap, including NPC names, major events, and open mysteries. 🎭 My GM Style I focus on narrative-driven gameplay, blending roleplay, tactical combat, and immersive world-building. My GMing approach balances player freedom with a strong, engaging story, ensuring each character’s choices feel impactful. 🔮 Storytelling & Roleplay Character-Driven Narrative – Your choices matter. The swamp changes based on your actions, and NPCs will react accordingly. Deep Roleplay Encouraged – NPCs have distinct personalities, goals, and accents to make them feel alive. Character Voices & NPC Portrayal – I use accents and mannerisms to differentiate characters, making interactions more immersive. The Rule of Cool – I follow the rules as written but will allow creative solutions that fit the tone of the story. If it makes for an unforgettable scene, I’ll work with you to make it happen. 🕵️ Investigation & Horror Slow-Burn Suspense – The horror builds gradually, from unease to outright terror. Real Consequences – The Broken Lands warp reality, and time in the Umbra can change players in unexpected ways. Dreams & Spirit Visions – Some nights, you don’t sleep. You see things—sometimes warnings, sometimes traps. ⚔️ Combat & Mechanics Tactical, Brutal Combat – Every fight is visceral, dangerous, and high-stakes. The Wyrm’s minions don’t go down easily. Unique Enemy Abilities – Custom-designed enemies Environmental Dangers – Sinking mud, spectral fog, and unstable Gauntlet zones can turn a fight against you. Cinematic Action – Whether it’s a claw-to-claw rooftop brawl, a moonlit werewolf duel, or a desperate swamp chase, combat will be fast-paced and thematic.

How Story Teller Cairns creates a safe table
1. Player Comfort & Safety Tools This campaign blends Western grit, supernatural horror, and werewolf pack dynamics, and we want to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all players. Safety Tools Used: Lines & Veils Document – Players will have a shared document where they can list hard no-go topics (Lines) and fade-to-black topics (Veils). This will be sent before Session 0 and updated as needed. X, N, and O System (for live games) X – Used if a scene is crossing a line. The scene immediately stops, and we shift or fade to black. N – "I'm not okay, but we can adjust" (to modify content mid-scene). O – "I’m good, keep going." These can be used verbally (if playing in person or voice chat) or via private messages for comfort. Check-Ins & Aftercare At the end of intense sessions, we’ll have a brief debrief where players can share any concerns privately or as a group. Players can message me between sessions if they have content adjustments or need a break. If a session includes particularly graphic horror or difficult emotional scenes, we’ll do a cool-down scene at the end to transition out of the intensity. 2. Themes & Tone of the Game This is a dark, horror-driven Western where supernatural threats lurk beneath the surface, and the world itself is hostile and corrupt. Themes Explored: Survival & Pack Mentality – The Garou are torn between their human instincts and their wolfish nature. Corruption & The Wyrm – The land itself is tainted, and the deeper you go into the swamp, the worse it gets. Mystery & Investigation – Unraveling the history of the Storm-Eater and the Uktena’s lost knowledge. Moral Dilemmas – Choosing between protecting your own pack or risking everything to save the world. Western Grit & Violence – Cowboys, outlaws, and lawmen caught in a supernatural war. Types of Horror Used: Supernatural Horror (ghosts, spirits, unnatural landscapes) Body Horror (tainted werewolves, mutations, disease spreading from the Broken Lands) Psychological Horror (visions, nightmares, paranoia caused by the Storm-Eater’s influence) Action Horror (fighting off monstrous creatures in desperate gunfights and claw-to-claw battles) Players can let me know which horror elements they enjoy and which ones to avoid. 3. Character Creation & Party Dynamics Character Types: Garou cowboys, ex-soldiers, bounty hunters, mystics, outcasts, lawmen, and shamans. Starting as a Pack: Players start together with a shared backstory (details decided in Session 0). This allows them to have pre-established relationships. Conflict Resolution: Intra-party tension is fine, but we’ll establish boundaries. PvP (player-vs-player) will be limited to roleplay or pre-agreed duels. Ties to the Mystery: Each character will have a personal stake in the unfolding events (revenge, duty, visions, etc.). 4. Game Mechanics & House Rules Rules System: Werewolf: The Apocalypse (5th Edition) Balance of Gameplay: 40% Roleplay – Intense character interactions, exploring personal struggles and moral choices. 30% Investigation – 30% Combat – Brutal fights against Wyrm-tainted creatures, duels, and ambushes in the swamps. Player Death: Rare but dramatic. If a character dies, it will be meaningful, with a chance for the player to return as a spirit or ancestor guide. 5. Logistics & Expectations Session Length: 2-4 hours Session Frequency: Weekly or biweekly Rescheduling: If two or more players can’t make it, we’ll reschedule or run a side scene instead of skipping. Ambiance & Music: A curated playlist of dark folk, eerie swamp blues, and western soundscapes will set the tone. Split Sessions: Dream sequences or spirit journeys might be run as one-on-one side sessions. Session 0 Topics: Lines & Veils discussion Character creation & pack ties Horror preferences Game mechanics refresher
