About the adventure

Your favourite coffeehouse's owner has been killed - and his cafe is now yours! As the new owners, you will need to deal with rival businesses, corrupt officials, and secret cults if you want your coffeeshop to succeed, and yourselves to survive. 🍰Whip up tasty treats under pressure ⚔️Fight the crime wave flooding your home 🌠Earn five stars at the city cooking contest 😈Stop a cult of demon-worshippers In this urban fantasy murder mystery, you will enjoy a balance of cosy cafe downtime and action-packed city adventuring. Sometimes, the adventure might even come to your cafe! At the start of the campaign, we will collaborate to establish certain truths about the city and its surrounding region - then you will create characters ready to dive into your new adventure! ✨All my games are inclusive, and any form of bigotry will not be tolerated. ✨I am happy to assist with character creation if needed. ✨Collaborative storytelling encouraged!

About me

Hello! I am Jay (they/he) and I would be delighted to run a game for you. I've been running multiple games a week since January 2021; I haven't run out of enthusiasm yet and I don't intend to! 👶 Born 1995 🏳️‍⚧️ Openly genderfluid 🧑‍🎓 Studying Spanish and creative writing 🧶 Fibrecraft fan 🎼 Accepting music recommendations Apart from the games you see on this page, I can be available in the European morning/afternoon. Should you have a system you'd love to play but haven't found a GM for, send me a message and I'll see what I can do. ¿Quieres que yo sea narrador de una campaña en español para tí? Tengo alguna experiencia de eso, entonces ¡mándame un mensaje! No soy fluido en español, sino en juegos de rol 😁

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together in our first meeting (Session 0). You may use any content from the core rulebook. If you wish to use content from the Void (or other playtest content), please check with me first. In Session 0 we will also flesh out your characters' connections to each other and to the setting. You are encouraged to name backstory locations inside or outside of the city, and to add interesting threads to your character's history for me to pull on later. Players who join later in the campaign will make characters at the same level as the rest of the party.

The current party

Let's enjoy a nice cup of killing demons together 🥰 Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I am on BST.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a mic and a computer with a web browser, such as Google Chrome or Firefox. You will also need accounts with Discord and the Forge (free level is fine). I can send you links to all of these. Not sure if your computer can handle Foundry? We won't be using a very intense version of it, but you can try the demo here in your browser: https://foundryvtt.com/demo I am happy to use video, but you are not obliged to. If you do wish to use video, you will need some kind of webcam. You do not need experience with the Daggerheart game system; it's relatively new so everyone is learning it at the same time.

What Jay brings to the table

I will provide Foundry Virtual Tabletop with music, backdrops, and virtual dice (customisable!), as well as maps of particularly important locations. I will create a map of your café and keep it up-to-date as you upgrade it. I will also provide lots of enthusiasm! We will be using my community's Discord server for our communication, with private channels for the game.

Homebrew rules

Content from the Void (official playtest content) may be used with GM permission. Other homebrew content must be discussed with the group as a whole.

Safety

How Jay creates a safe table

We will have a thorough Session 0 as our first meeting, where we will go over the expectations we have for one another and for the game. I will collect everyone's Lines and Veils beforehand, and will place them in an anonymised list, so that everyone knows where not to tread. We will have safety tool buttons in our virtual tabletop, such as the X-card and fast-forward buttons, and you are always encouraged to DM me during a session if you are at all uncomfortable. I will also make time for a 'cooldown' after each session so that we can decompress at the end. The content warnings listed here include the most significant 'warning-worthy' topics in the campaign. If there are other content warnings you need to know about, please let me know and we can discuss how to make you most comfortable. I am also happy to work with players to remove triggering content from the plot, as your fun and safety are what's most important. However, please bear in mind that the theme here involves cults and a murder mystery, and that cannot be changed.
