About the adventure

Roots of Malice: A Feywild Survival Odyssey Step into a world of eternal twilight and vibrant decay in this D&D 5e 2024 campaign set within the beautiful but treacherous Court of Autumn. Your journey begins in the high-climbing Autumn Eladrin town of Sweetspell, where the falling leaves are stained with a shadow that shouldn't be there. The Story So Far The village of Amberwell, nestled deep within the Redwood, is the lifeblood of the local region, known for its expert hunters and bountiful fishing. But the balance has tilted. The forests have become a gauntlet of corrupted foliage and dangerous, displaced beasts that are fleeing from a terror they cannot name. To make matters worse, a strange disease is spreading through the woods. Animals and Plants alike are being infected with a fungal disease known as "Mages Bane". In addition the villagers report being terrorized by strange, red-furred goblins. These creatures, wearing what look like acorn hats, strike from the shadows to raid larders and kill livestock with a cold, hive-mind efficiency. As the food runs out and the disease runs rampant, the village is on the brink of a desperate winter. The Call to Adventure You are residents of the Feywild, brought together in Sweetspell to assist with the crisis. Captain Farkris, a stern Autumn Eladrin officer, and Quartermaster Pips, a frantic Satyr, have organized a desperate relief effort. Your mission is simple but dangerous: escort Barnaby, a massive, supply-laden Dew-Back Beetle, across the perilous trails to Amberwell. When Farkris and Pips ride ahead to scout and fail to arrive, you are left alone to guide the town's last hope through a forest that is starting to feel... sick. What to Expect A Sandbox of Intrigue: Start at Level 1 and grow to Level 6 as you explore a meticulously detailed region, from the Amberflow River to the dark borders of the Murkendraw. Fey-Native Heroes: Build a character that is part of the world, whether you're a knight of the Summer Court, an Amberwell hunter seeking their home, or a scholar of the strange "Mage’s Bane" fungus that is leeching the magic from the land. Ecological Horror: Experience a campaign that blends the whimsy of the Feywild with the tension of a survival thriller as you uncover why the forest is turning against itself. The Hunt for the Truth:Track the missing Captain, defend the village, and eventually confront the ancient, sentient source of the "red-furred goblins" before the Redwood is lost forever. The leaves are falling, and the harvest is coming early this year. Will you stand as a protector of the Autumn Court, or will you be buried by the roots of malice?

About me

Hi I am Dan. I have been a D&D player since 2nd Edition. Now I am stepping into the rolls of an online DM. I am an experienced DM and have ran several campaigns. My games are always welcoming to new players at the table. My games are also LBGTQ+ friendly. My schedule is completely open as I devote all my time and effort to my campaigns and players. I look forward to incorporating your ideas into a grand adventure for all of us! I present tough but fair challenges for my players. I like to incorporate the challenge and tough scenarios that I grew up with in classic DnD but bring it to the modern day. I value all my players and am willing to work with most character concepts. I want you to be able to tell YOUR story!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done one on one with me upon deciding to join the campaign. Characters will be made with point buy stats and begin at level 1. Characters will be made in Roll20 on Roll20 character sheets. All rolls will be done in Roll20. I have 3rd party resources that allow you to play as species and even monsters from the Feywild. Third party and homebrew material must be approved by me.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord to be able to participate in voice chat and a ROll20 account in order to play (both accounts are free). You will also need a working mic (preferably with head phones) with quality good enough so we can understand you.

What DanDanBigelow brings to the table

I provide a very immersive experience for my players. I employ voice acting, custom hand made battle maps and dungeons, background music and more to make sure you have the most immersive experience possible. I also will provide an entire library of official and third party D&D 5e resources.

Homebrew rules

I provide the following homebrew rules for my games: POTIONS OF HEALING CAN BE DRANK AS AN ACTION OR BONUS ACTION. If drank as an action you will get the full healing of the potion. (For instance a normal potion of healing heals for 2d4+2. If you take an action to drink it you regain 10 hp with no need to roll). If drank as a bonus action you will roll like normal. Giving an unconscious character a potion of healing is still a bonus action and must be rolled. If you choose to use your action to give an unconscious character a potion of healing you will still have to roll. HERO POINTS: At the start of the campaign you will receive 5 Hero Points. By Expending a Hero Point you may reroll the last d20 roll you made. If that roll was made at advantage the new roll is also made at advantage. If that roll was made at disadvantage the new roll is also made at disadvantage. You MUST use the new roll. You may use hero points after you know whether you succeeded or failed. You may use as many hero points as you like on a roll. Once a hero point is expended it is gone until you reach your next level. Upon leveling up you will receive a new set of 5 hero points. Any unused Hero Points from the last level will expire upon reaching a new level. Hero Points do not carry over from level to level, use them or lose them.
