About the adventure

When travelers speak of monsters, they usually mean creatures that attack on sight. But what if the stories you've heard aren't the whole truth? What if there's more to these beings than claws and hunger? This adventure comes from the Uncaged Anthology, a collection that takes female creatures dismissed as monsters or oversimplified creatures and asks what stories we've been missing. The ones in this one-shot have their own perspective on things. Your choices will matter, and combat isn't the only way forward. This is an excellent choice for new players learning D&D. You'll face moral dilemmas without obvious answers and see classic creatures through fresh eyes. The session runs 3-4 hours and is designed for level 2 characters, with guidance throughout to help you make meaningful choices.

About me

Hi! I'm Valkyrie (She/Her). I'm a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community (specifically the T and the L, and other aspects within the '+'), so respect and accessibility are a big deal in my games. With over 5 years in D&D and recent explorations into various other TTRPGs, I do my best to keep you on your toes but invested in the world around you. Your character is the key to perfecting my games. My main TTRPG systems (in order of experience): - D&D 5e - Monsterhearts 2 - Call of Cthulhu 7e - Avatar Legends - Fate Core - Paranoia (Red Clearance Edition) - And More! Especially one-shot systems that don't quite make it to the list. Also, if you're looking to commission custom campaigns or one-shots, reach out to me! I'll gladly tailor a game to your liking.

Character creation

Creating your character

Bring a level 2 character built with Point Buy or Standard Array. Stick to official D&D 5e content for this one. It keeps things balanced for a one-shot. If you've got an unusual build idea or want to try something outside those boundaries, reach out beforehand and we'll see if it works for the story.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have your level 2 character sheet ready before we start. Since this is a one-shot, I won't need to approve every detail. Build within the guidelines listed above and you're good to go. If you want to pitch something unusual or bend those rules a bit, just shoot me a message beforehand.

What Valkyrie brings to the table

You'll get maps, tokens, and music in Roll20. Everything runs smoothly there, and I've prepped handouts. We use Discord for voice, which keeps the table feel conversational. I lean into different voices for NPCs, and I don't shy away from letting the dice tell hard stories. That said, I'll always favor drama over dry mechanics. If you try something creative and bold, I'll work with you to make it happen within reason. This module emphasizes choices and consequences. Multiple approaches exist to any problem, and what you choose to do will shape how things unfold. There's more happening than meets the eye.

Homebrew rules

Potions can be chugged as a bonus action. You didn't spend gold on health in a bottle just to waste your turn drinking. For everything else, the rules work as written unless drama demands otherwise.

Safety

How Valkyrie creates a safe table

No questionnaires, no impersonal checkboxes, just a real conversation about what topics feel off-limits and what content you'd rather handle offscreen. You can DM me privately at any point if something comes up you don't want to share with the group. During play, taking breaks is expected. If you need to step away for a few minutes, just say 'brb' in chat or on voice. If something uncomfortable happens mid-session and you don't want to stop the game entirely, message me directly and I'll adjust without making it a whole announcement. After the session, I check in with everyone to make sure they're leaving in a good headspace. If something went sideways that we need to address, we handle it then.
