About the adventure

Calling all players looking to try a mystery/Gothic Horror TTRPG experience! This is a starting adventure for new players to learn the ropes of one of the best horror/mystery settings i've had the pleasure of running. Come join us in the world of Vaesen set in 19th century Scandinavia centered around confronting Vaesen (supernatural beings). You are someone who has been gifted the sight a way to see Veasen even when they wish to remine hidden. this is usually from a physical or phycological trauma (most likely supernatural in origin). Now with this mysterious innovation you find you are not alone surrounded by others with similar abilities from a society for those like you! But can you trust them with your life? You should know better than anyone that everybody has a dark secret... In facing whatever has brought you to the Witch-cat Inn you may find a respite in the company of your new group or will the doom that looms over the Witch-cat consume you? Join us and find out for yourself!

About me

Hi, My Name, is Franklin West I'm 27 and I've been playing TTRPG's for close to 15 years on and off now and, DM/GM'd for 5 of those years and I've come to deeply enjoy it. Even as a young kid I loved consuming Sci-fi and, Fantasy as much as possible so when I was introduced to D&D as teenager it really left its impression on me. Now over the last 5 years have come to DM/GM for newer players to the Hobbie of TTRPG's rather than being a player. While it's lot more work to tell a story as a GM/DM I've come to enjoy it more with each year of experience! The fun of unwrapping a new world with my players to see all the little details that make a TTRPG a unique experience is what I wish to continue here within this community to reach more new players looking to explore D&D or, other systems of play.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players may expect to start building characters at session 0 and expected to finish before the Adventure begins. We will be using Chapter 2 in the core Vaesen rule book to create characters where I will be able to answer and go over any questions with new characters playing for the first time.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I do ask my players to make an account on Alchemy the Virtual Tabletop I use to run games of Vaesen online (there are free account options). I do also ask my players to join a discord channel for general discussion before, during and, after our Session! the link for that is here:https://discord.gg/pkMkhPUg

What Franklin West brings to the table

I Look to bring to life the witch-cat inn and the wonderfully Gothic Horror of Vasesn using Alchemy VTT with official art/ moving scene overlays to help create are shared adventures. Maps made me and given by the core rulebook as well. Combat is almost always deadly when facing a Vaesen and, brute force will only get you so far. The players will need to investigate clues and do their homework if they want to survive and defeat the Vaesen!

Homebrew rules

I do think the use of firearms is a little restrictive in combat so I may allow a player to shoot an opponent in the same zone (instead of making a player move to an adjacent zone to attack) that they are in for the tradeoff of making the role harder to pull of successfully with the firearm.

Safety

How Franklin West creates a safe table

I do like to go over lines and veils as well as the Luxton technique in session 0. But do have an automated X card bult in the system for when a player feeling uncomfortable (it also remains anonymous) and needs the scene to stop otherwise a player ab also use a whisper message to me if they want to talk privately. N & O's may be posted to the play journal if a player wishes to express a interest or disinterest in any situation during play. I also highly encourage my players to take a 10-15min break during this one shot to collect themselves and check in with each other before moving forward to the second half.
