About the adventure

You will play as residents of the town of Bright Hold. A humble town on the edge of a forest known for their wood carvers and craftsmen. However, you are no ordinary townsfolk. You are members of the Red Guard. The Red Guard are no ordinary town guards either. The Red Guard are those keeping a watchful eye out for disasters and springing into action when they occur. Extreme weather, fires, monsters and raiding parties are your job to handle. Prevention, planing, protocol, and precise response are your tenants. It is a big responsibility. A responsibility you wear as a badge of honor. In this campaign we will explore what happens when your party faces a foe too powerful to handle and the place you call home pays the price. Then we see what comes next and what you are willing to do to even the playing field and get your revenge. Play to find out if you will become another tally on the dragon's list of kills or if your party will be the one's to Slay the Beast.

About me

I love TTRPGs! I have been playing D&D and other TTRPGs for about 15 years and I have been GMing for the last 6 years. I already GM professionally for three companies (Wizard Staffing Co, Rough Magic, and Chicago Role Players' Guild) but I wanted to expand my reach into the online world. In my years of GMing I have found that I really enjoy facilitating fun experiences for others and I love telling stories collaboratively. I went to collage to study acting and voiceover and I like to use what I learned along with my over 15 years of improv training to bring my stories and NPCs to life. I am friendly and respectful and so excited to GM for cool people!

Character creation

Creating your character

Our first session will be a session zero. Character creation will happen during this session zero. Before you make your characters mechanically, I will guild you through fleshing out who they are and their relationship to the rest of the party as well as the town itself. We will be using a combination of 2014 and 2024 rule based on your preferences. For stats, you can roll for them, use point by, or use standard array. If you want to use a special subclass from a third party source I just ask that you run it by me so I can check it out before I say you can use it. Multi-classing is fine. You will start at level 6. For equipment, you can have your classes starting equipment and we will discuss upgrades and other stuff you can start with. We will establish an amount of gold you can then use to buy more equipment with. You can also start with one uncommon magic item.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Once you have purchased your seat, all you need to do to prepare to play in my game is friend me on Discord so I can add you to a group chat with the other players. This is where we will do our video calls for sessions. This is a theater of the mind game, so we will not be using VTTs for maps. Then you just need to come to the session zero ready to make your PC.

What Ben Guest brings to the table

As a GM I try to make my performance as a storyteller as immersive as I can. I do voices for my NPCs and paint the setting with my words in the tone of the moment. I try to do a balance of role play and combat and I do try to make my combats tactically interesting with secondary objectives and shifting dynamics. I like to follow the rules for the structure they provide but will bend or change them if they are getting in the way of fun.

Homebrew rules

I do let you drink a potion as a bonus action. I like to roll double the dice for a crit. I allow intimidation to use charisma or strength.

Safety

How Ben Guest creates a safe table

We will go over the safety tools we will be using during our session zero. We will talk about lines and veils and the rpg consent form and I will send these documents for you to fill out before our session 1. We will talk about x card and how we will use it to pause play. To use the x card we will make an x with our arms for the camera to see. During the sessions there will be one official break but you can ask for a break or step away at any time. After sessions we will do stars and wishes where everyone shares something they liked about what each person did that session and something they hope to see in future sessions.
