About the adventure
A lighthearted fantasy investigation DnD one shot welcoming to new players. This is a silly game but with some big stakes. Every place is a pun, every enemy has a silly voice, yet you hold the fate of the realm in your hands. The best way I can put it is this is like playing dnd in the Shrek universe. On a scale of 1-10 Tone 3. Though you fight bad guys most of the game is zany and relaxed Power 4. You need only bring a passable character not a powerful one. Theme 1. You have no expectation of bring a chracter that fits the specific theme of the game or is talor made for the game. You have been gathered at the gates of the local lord after receiving a mysterious letter requesting your aid. Upon arrival you are informed that the dragon that lives in the nearby mountain has had its egg stolen. The monks that train under the dragon who were charged to protect the dragon's nest told the lord of this and now he has hired you to find who stole it and get it back before the dragon notices. Head to the scene of the crime and track down the dragonnappers.

About me
Hello there, I go by Light, Ben, DM or you can scream some comprehendible noise. I respond to all of those with varying levels of enthusiasm. Been a nerd all my life but got into DND somewhere around 2020. I've been DMing mostly DND 5e every weekend since. As such it is my most comfortable game having done countless one shots, many month long games, and a few year long campaigns. I've done a little with Call of Cthulhu, Monster of the Week, Fallout2d20, MaidRPG, CyberPunkRed, and a few other systems that once more proficient with I hope to start running as well. I work my regular hours as a substitute teacher but decided to come here to have an excuse for why I'm running a game every other night that won't get me criticized... as much.

Creating your character
Characters will be level 5, point buy for stats, starting equipment for class and background. Multi classing is allowed. Use of official wotc content is required unless approved before the game on a case by case bases. We will use discord to talk and roll20 for all rolls. (This is on an old account so it doesn't have all the fancy automations.) If you need any assistance with character creation let me know. Characters can either be made on roll20 or imported from dndbeyond if you have the beyond20 extension. If you are unsure of how to work the charactermancer of roll20 let me know and I'll help you through it. You can make your characters before game and I'll review them to make sure everything is correct. We will be using 2014 rules and content as I am not as familiar with the newer rules and some of those seemed to have taken a dive off the deep end.
Other than some social and investigative skills this game can function with most parties. Currently no players are here to reference.
What to expect
Preparing for the session

What Light brings to the table
Of all my games I've ran this is maybe my most ran and most ironed out. Though it is silly and zany it is a good place for players to get new experience with both mechanics and roleplay. I have a lot of experience with new and young players and helping them get through the early stages of DnD where there is a lot of growing pains. The game will have music and character voices along with an assortment of jokes and puns to give a lighthearted fairytale vibe. The combats will be on grid based maps with some balanced encounters (I've only had 1 character ever die in this game). I stick 99% to rules as written to keep things fair and as such every encounter is winnable for the players. My goal is to challenge you not beat you.
Homebrew rules
I have a rule that only two people can roll the same skill check out of combat to prevent everyone from rolling over and over again until they make a check and taking any weight away from rolling.

How Light creates a safe table
As this is a one shot much of the safety tools will need to be dealt with before games. Note that this is closer to a PG-13 take of dnd. You will of course fight and kill monsters but there is not hard themes in this game outside of a dragon having its egg stolen which could be associated with kidnapping. If there are any lines of veils that a player has they can be messaged to me and the game you are playing. They will be brought up at the beginning of the game but not said whom they are from for anonymity. Some basic rules that will also be posted on the discord server: These game can SOMETIMES have mature content and dark topics depending on the themes of the individual game. If they are not warned about for that game do not inject them into the game. No Politics, real world religion or other divisive topics need be discussed here. Do not flirt with the players themselves. If you flirt with another character in game make sure the player controlling that character is ok with it. Player vs player is prohibited unless both players agree above board on the terms of the interaction. These games are cooperative and PvP has never led to more cooperative play in any of my games. Be kind, helpful and patient with everyone (no bullying or harassment). Be punctual to sessions you are a part of. I and others may make mistakes or have a different interpretation of certain rules. When such things arise my goal is to find what is most fair and not slow the game down with arguments or research. If you have a problem with someone please resolve it privately or seek a third party to assist in resolution. When it is not your turn please type out what you want to say on roll20 unless the player taking their turn or the DM is interacting with you. Talking over one another does not help anyone.
