About the adventure

Kingmaker is a rustic fantasy campaign with a large focus wilderness (h)exploration within the Stolen Lands. As the player's proceed through the story, they'll soon find themselves heading up the establishment of a kingdom built in their own image. But the Stolen Lands aren't called that without reason. Many attempts at bringing civilization have happened and yet it seems none have lasted long enough to truly leave a mark in history. Forces both political and supernatural work to undermine the PCs' nascent kingdom. It'll be up to them to keep their young kingdom alive lest they should fall prey to the Stolen Lands ravenous nature. Session 0 is free and you will not be charged for this session. If a charge occurs, you will be refunded. This session 0 will be used to discuss character creation and party dynamics as a group. It'll also be used to talk about safety tools and expectations.

About me

Hello! My name is Rey and I'm hoping you'll join me on my journey to becoming a professional GM! I've been playing tabletop games regularly for the past 20 years when I first started going to what was my favorite local gaming store in my hometown at the time where I got my first true taste of Dungeons & Dragons. I've since spread my wings from the starting nest of D&D and have a great love of exploring new indie games or slightly less mainstream games. I've grown to love many genres beyond the classic fantasy and love when the story and the world gets weird and wacky. As my tastes in TTRPGs has expanded, so has the need for me to step up to the plate to introduce my new favorite games to people who may have not yet taken the step out of their comfort zones. I've run a few different Pathfinder (both 1st and 2nd edition) campaigns and I absolutely adore PF2e. I've also ran a few one-shots of games like LANCER, Beacon, and Battlegroup. I also hope someday to become confident enough to run Shadowrun 5e as I love its setting. So if any of this sounds interesting to you, I hope you'll join me on this journey.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be primarily handled in the first session. This will help give players and chance to figure out who and what they are playing while coordinating their character's mechanics and storyline. *Character's Starting Levels will be 1. * Attributes will be decided with a completely homebrew method that, by and large, scraps Pathfinder 2e's ABC Boost system. Instead player's will simply choose a stat array that totals +10 across the six standard stats while allowing only one '+4' and one '-1' amongst the six attributes. Ancestry Attribute Boosts are completely removed. Background Attribute Boosts are completely removed but certain uncommon and rare backgrounds will increase or decrease the total bonus of the stat array. Class Key Attributes Boosts are solely used to determine which attribute can be the +4. *** Certain Variant Rules will be in place from the beginning *** Ancestral Paragon Free Archetype Gradual Ability Boosts *** Additional Variant Rules will be discussed at session 0 *** Galactic Hero Points from SF2e Skill Paragon from SF2e *** Homebrew Character Creation Rule *** Bonus 1st-Level Class Feat for ALL Characters *** Classes *** All common and uncommon official Pathfinder 2e classes will be allowed. The current playtest classes (Necromancer and Runesmith) will be allowed but will need to be changed to the official release versions come out in the Pathfinder 2e Foundry VTT system module. Exemplar characters must be water, forest, and/or fey based in nature and will be discussed in full detail between myself and the player. Due to Numeria's vicinity, Starfinder character options can be discussed. *** Ancestries *** All Player Core ancestries and versatile heritages are available. The following ancestries are playable: Android, Awakened Animal, Catfolk, Centaur, Dragonet, Fetchling, Hobgoblin, Kitsune, Kobold, Lizardfolk, Minotaur, Ratfolk, Sprite, Strix, Tengu. The following Versatile Heritages are playable: Beastkin, Changeling, Dhampir, Dragonblood, Duskwalker, and all Nephilim and Geniekin. Some unique cases for 'Ancestries' are Skeleton, various Undead archetypes, and Werecreature archetypes. The Skeleton Ancestry and Zombie archetype is not available at the start but should your character meet an unfortunate end, rising as a Skeleton or Zombie with an appropriate character rebuild will be a freely available option for continuing your character's story. The Ghost, Mummy, and Vampire archetypes are available at the start of the game but you must take a version of the Round Ears feat (https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=960) as one of your first level Ancestry feats in addition to the Archetype feat at second level (This may be your free archetype feat). Ghoul and Lich archetypes are earned through death or choice. Werecreatures are fine but they cannot transmit lycanthropy. Common character options are universally available. Talk with me about uncommon/rare options. 3rd Party options can be discussed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to join my Discord server and create an account on forge-vtt.com and accept a game invite from that website to be able to properly join the game. Character builder of player's choice is allowed by my recommendation is using Pathbuilder 2e with premium purchased to allow variant rules to be added.

What Rey brings to the table

I try to bring my best attempt at voices to the NPCs I play! I wouldn't describe myself as a professional voice actor but I do hope my attempts at different voices will help players better differentiate between characters speaking and offer greater immersion to the game. I may also attempt to utilize the Voicemod app in the future to see if I can further improve this facet of my game. Generally, player's should expect Rules as Written but I'm not completely closed off to Rule of Cool if I think it's particular apropos. Combat should be tactical and require decent strategy from the players to succeed with satisfactory results. Additional things will hopefully create an immersive game including ambient music, sound fx, animations for many common actions as well as the ability for player's create their own animation sequences to better suit how they imagine their abilities.

Homebrew rules

At minimum; there will be some form of modification(s) to Hero Points to make them more satisfying to use. Galactic Hero Points from Starfinder will likely be in play but I may also include the Hero Point deck if players are interested. Modified Critical Hits: I'll be using the double dice method instead of double damage method. Players will decide rather to include Critical Hit deck in game play. Modified Critical Failure: If a Natural One or Two is used to determine the final result of a roll, a compensatory Hero Point will be granted after resolving the result but before Death (if that should that occur because of the result; this allows the use of the hero point to prevent death). To clarify; using a hero point to reroll a Natural One or Two is NOT USING the Natural One or Two to determine the final result of a roll and so will not be awarded a compensatory Hero Point. Players will decide rather to include the Critical Failure deck in game play. I may consider changes to Incapacitation trait but I haven't made any decision concerning that yet.

Safety

How Rey creates a safe table

Over session zero, we will go over the content warnings list and a brief spoiler-free description of what to expect for the various contents in the game. We'll also discuss the matter of PvP in this campaign during session zero. X, N, and O-Cards will be come in the form of digital tools on Foundry VTT and I will display how to utilize them should the need come up. My intention for Debriefing/Aftercare is to offer to the group the opportunity for a thorough Debriefing and/or Aftercare session after the game session ends. We'll discuss what occurred during the session and figure out how to proceed from there. It's not always an appropriate time to try to figure out solutions right after a rough session so after discussing he events of the session, we'll engage in aftercare to help the affected players to relax and recover. Finally, we'll discuss how and when to work on a solution for the issues that arose during the session.
