About the adventure
The Relics of Aeschulin is a fully homebrew campaign set on the relatively young world/plane of Aeschulin. It begins with a relic rush as artefacts of ancient origin are discovered on a small island nation in a remote location - it will then transition into a larger scale story spanning multiple continents. The main themes are political, epic mystical, and an emotional journey for the player characters. It is suitable for any level of player, I am very used to helping guide new people with character creation and mechanics. Since it is a homebrew world there is more scope than usual to be creative with backgrounds and species as in Aeschulin there are less defined cliches of what it means to be an elf, or a dwarf, etc. A typical session runs 3.5 hours, with some breaks. We chat on discord and potentially use webcams too. I will always have my webcam on to help use gestures to immerse players in my world. I love to make detailed maps, both 2D and 3D, so visual aids will be common. The focus is storytelling and player driven narratives. I can assure any potential players than I always put my players first - it might be a world I created but YOU are the stars of the show. While I have the starting plot lined up, it can quickly change if players show interest in other aspects of my world, as such it doesnt matter whether you are more political or more emotionally driven, there is something for everyone in the campaign I have been designing. My ideal is that it lasts at least a year, possibly a lot longer, if the group stays together and gets immersed. I have had multiple campaigns last that long and it really builds tension and allows for different chapters and arcs like a proper story or novel.

About me
I have been DMing games for several years now, roughly two or three weekly sessions, some paid some not. I have run starfinder, wanderhome, but primarily DND campaigns which have lasted for years and one of which is still going from its start. I use a variety of software, maps, virtual tabletops etc, to create an immersive experience for my players. My style is somewhat whimsical, I allow players lots of freedom, but always with a strong narrative core. I am a trained actor and storytelling is the heart of my skillset. I prefer story over mechanics, but still work within the rules of the game and enjoy making sure players dont try to go against the spirit of the game. I have run some modules of DND, but these all eventually ended up with homebrew elements, and now I am in the process of worldbuilding a complete homebrew setting for my next campaign. I am partway through an online course in DMing which has given me plenty of tips and skills on making my encounters and storytelling even better.

Creating your character
Players are free to create a character before session zero, or at least have something in mind, but naturally as it is a homebrew world I anticipate many questions around this process. Before session zero I will answer individual questions about species, how they fit into the world, etc. At session zero you will all receive a run down on the basics of the world of Aeschulin and what it is like, as in what any person would know if they originated from this plane. This will equip you to design a full story for your character - I am not expecting a whole novel of work, but a page or two of backstory, alongside some potential NPCS for example that you might know already. is very helpful. I also know the group will want to discuss roles with each other before committing so this will be taken into account.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need discord and DND beyond accounts, for the voice/video and for the player character sheets tracking. There will be a discord server dedicated to the campaign where info will be shared. You do not need any virtual tabletops as I run via stream.
What Obelisk brings to the table
My playstyle is focused on a narrative worldbuilding focus, with emphasis on making decisions based on character motivation. I am very flexible and base my style on player input - however I am more about story than mechanics, although I enjoy using mechanics to help keep the game balanced and enjoyable for everyone. There will be ambient music, there will be 2D and 3D maps, and custom models for your characters. I use the rule of cool but do try to keep it "balanced" I do not go strictly against obvious rules just because it sounds fun as I believe players have more fun where working within the rules of DND. I do try and make my NPCS distinct in term of voices too, and this is a strength of mine.

How Obelisk creates a safe table
Between session zero and session one, players will need to fill in a form (this can be anonymous if wanted) that details any subjects players are either comfortable with or not comfortable with or are a grey area. I operate an open table where calling for a break is always accepted and there is never any pressure to take part in an aspect of gameplay you are uncomfortable with, for any reason at all. I encourage players to be open about their health, within reason, and I am happy to take into account any players needs regarding changes to gameplay to make it accessible for them. I strongly believe DND should be accessible to everyone. There are certain things I operate a zero tolerance policy on regarding behavior and which will never happen in my groups. Overall, I use several safety tools and processes to keep all my players safe and enjoying the game.
