About the adventure
The Return of The Society For centuries, the Society stood as a secret order dedicated to understanding—and containing—the strange creatures of the North. From its headquarters in Uppsala, it investigated disturbances across Scandinavia, keeping the fragile balance between humanity and the unseen. But time, neglect, and tragedy eroded its strength, and the Society eventually crumbled into silence. Now, in the late 19th century, the world is changing. Railways carve through ancient forests, factories rise where lakes once lay quiet, and science begins to push aside superstition. Yet as progress advances, the vaesen—beings of myth, folklore, and nightmare—grow restless. Old pacts are forgotten, sacred places are disturbed, and humanity’s arrogance has awoken forces best left alone. It is in this time that you, touched by the strange gift of the Sight, have come together. Whether through chance, destiny, or tragedy, you alone can perceive the vaesen as they truly are. Drawn to Uppsala, you have reopened the Society’s headquarters, inheriting its library, its relics, and its unfinished mission. The Campaign Over the course of play, you will: Investigate mysteries across Scandinavia, from remote villages and brooding forests to windswept coasts and snowbound valleys. Encounter vaesen, both terrifying and tragic—spirits, trolls, shapeshifters, and beings far older than humankind. Uncover the history of the Society and the reasons for its collapse. Struggle to balance your duty against your own personal ambitions, fears, and pasts. Your investigations will reveal that not all vaesen are monsters, not all humans are victims, and the line between folklore and survival is razor-thin. Violence is always an option, but understanding—though harder—may restore the balance more surely. With your return, the Society breathes once more. But so too does the hidden world. My Style Expect a campaign steeped in mystery and role-play, weaving published tales with my own. Personal stories will unfold for those willing to let their characters’ pasts see light of day.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons in 1986 by my amazing 5th-grade English teacher, and I’ve been hooked ever since. A lifelong love of fantasy, sci-fi, books, and storytelling turned out to be the perfect mix for a budding Dungeon Master. Now, with close to 40 years of experience behind the screen, I’m excited to share my style of game mastering with players beyond my usual circle of friends. When I’m not rolling dice or crafting adventures, you’ll probably find me mountain biking, hiking, gaming, reading, catching a live rock show, or hanging out with my cat.

What David of the North brings to the table
I'll be bringing atmospheric visuals, maps, handouts, music and SFX and a good amount of voices. Though much of this game will be Theatre-of-the-Mind, I do like to enhance the gaming experience as much as possible. This will be Rules-as-Written, but I'm always open to player ingenuity and imagination.

How David of the North creates a safe table
The old folk tales often expressed dark and mature themes, and thus the Vaesen RPG explores such themes as well. This is a horror game, so expect Rated-M for mature content. I will be putting up a list of warnings before every mystery on Alchemy (providing it does not spoil the content).
