About the adventure
Beneath the crushing weight of humanity's existence lies a black psychic miasma, a roiling black sea holding all the memories, wants, and desires of human existence combined. Most don't notice this, as it goes by passively in the background, underneath what we consider reality. But, occasionally those sensitive to it can interact with it and see things that others would claim as ghosts, spirits, auras. However, what is worrying is that there are things in the sea, things made up of a great stain left by humanity. Sins, not just wants or actions, but entities that have formed from a traumatic event in the life of a psychically gifted individual. Things that if allowed to grow will eat flesh, taint the world around them and kill thousands in their rampage. It is the job of the secret organization CAIN and its psychically trained exorcists to kill these sins. Until the stain is wiped away, kill sin and lie to god. Welcome to the world of CAIN, where you take part in the most bombastic of exorcisms. In a game that feels like Chainsaw Man, Persona 5, and Jujutsu Kaisen met. Kill Sin, Lie to God. In CAIN you play an Exorcist under the omnipresent ominous extra governmental agency CAIN. If you like modern horror, played games like World of Darkness or KULT, then this is for you. As an exorcist, you were likely recruited as an adolescent, having been detected for your psychic potential. In every psychic lies a sin-seed, a paranormal growth in either your head of heart. Like an angel or demon in a fetal position it sits inside you waiting to come to life as a sin. CAIN recruited you in order to, in their words, "Wipe your stain clean through service," and though you work CAIN, they do not consider you to be a true part of the organization, in fact they don't even consider you human. First time exorcists have it rough with a low 40%s survival rate. But you do not fight the Sins without tools, as a psychically gifted individual you have access to the 12 Blasphemies, Psychic Powers that can tear the world around you asunder, create things from nothing, turn back time, bind sins and more. Darkness encroaches on the land and the Sins are so very hungry. Will you survive this game of modern horror? Or will you be another statistic. Will your Grace serve you, or will you turn to becoming the worst of the worst, an exorcist turned sin? This game is not for the faint of heart or minors. Trigger warnings: graphic violence and gore, body horror, physical transformation and body modification, death of player characters, psychological horror, trauma (sins are literally made of human suffering), mental health themes, loss of identity and self, dehumanization and institutional control, oppressive authority and military abuse, existential horror, religious imagery, demonic entities, dissociation and loss of bodily autonomy, coercion and forced conscription, grief and loss, overwhelming psychic stress, and permanent, irreversible consequences.

About me
I am a nerd. First and foremost, a nerd. I began playing games in 1986. As I was raised in Asia, my first RPG was Call of Cthulhu, followed by Sword World. Japanese table talk roleplaying games. Similar in taste to early DND Sword World was just Japanese Fantasy lifted from anime and manga, and Call of Cthulhu was just the Japanese penchant to lost imported American horror. The games changed me, they led to novels, Manda, RPGs, and more TTRPGs in amounts that shocked me .once I found a pen pal in the US I would send him VHS tapes of Anime and he would send me TTRPGs from American game stores. That was how I got my first DnD Rulescyclopedia, my first edition of Rifts, WEG Star Wars, Vampire, Werewolf, Shadowrun, Cybergen... It made me a true fan of the genre. By 12 I was a forever GM. Now at nearly 46 I have been Gaming games for 34 years. I run a rules second, players, first rule of cool,OSR feeling game. I don't railroad and I create sandboxes whether or not I have a hexmap. Of late I have been exploring the plethora of new and independent games that have been about and I want to share my passion at the table with others here. I am also a game designer and 3d modeler for TTRPGs and my flagship system Visions : Suaykalpa is due to release via Kickstarter this December.

Creating your character
This game is new player friendly at my tables. It is open to all experience levels and I fully intend to support new players from start to finish. Meant for 4-6 Exorcists. 3-4 Hour Game Sessions. 30 mins table chat split into a pre game check in and a post game Roses and Thorns, 2 15-minute breaks and 3 hours of actual play. Basically a 3 hour game with breathing room. Character creation will be handled during Session 0 which will not be counted towards your booking of 5-10 sessions. This is due to the nature of the trigger warnings and associated dark themes and to ensure all players have a firm understanding of what they are getting into. This game is not for everyone, but is open to all. Characters will be created per the official rules in CAIN 1.3 and will start at base level. Players are encouraged to support the author if they wish and buy a copy of the game. Support Indie Devs. No books are expressly off limits, and no character archetypes are limited. Character creation should will be a highlight of the game as it will truly introduce you to the world of CAIN, it's antagonists and its dark horror vibe. If you have a favorite fan made Sin you wish to face or Blasphemy you wish to use on your exorcist, please expressly bring it to me. If it is not broken, I will likely allow it. Think a mix of Chainsaw Man, Persona, and Jujutsu Kaisen, add a little Cabin in the Woods, maybe some Nightbreed by Clive Barker and you are starting to zero in on the vibe.
No specific party composition required: all Exorcist types welcome. This game is open to new and experienced players alike. The only requirement is a willingness to engage with dark, intense content and a commitment to table safety and respect for fellow players.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should have a Foundry VTT account and Discord as that is how the game will be run. I pay for all hosting and supply all other needed materials. Please send a friend request to me on Discord only after you are a confirmed seat, unless you have questions that need answering. Note that any attempts to circumvent StartPlaying.Games will result is a table ban. You are welcome to ask questions but not to skirt the rules. Again this is a new player friendly, learner friendly campaign. If you have been interested in trying the world of CAIN, then this is a table for you. CAIN runs on a Forged in the Dark system, meaning player characters are handled primarily through playbooks initially but can very much choose things from other playbooks as well.
What Yuthika "Fey" brings to the table
I bring to the table hosting, character voices, ambient music, high grade maps, and ambiance to help immerse you i the dark and gritty world of CAIN. I am also a teaching Admin (GM), which means I firmly believe in helping on board others into systems and settings. Do not feel afraid to come in with only a rough idea of what the game entails. I will gladly help you through all of it.
Homebrew rules
I do currently use both CAIN: Leviathan and The Odysseus Protocol, these are officially supported materials and the only current additions to the base book being used in this game as a default, however, the CAIN subreddit has a ton of great player made additions from Sins to Face to Blasphemies for your character's powers, if you find one you like, let me know.

How Yuthika "Fey" creates a safe table
Your Safety Matters CAIN deals with heavy, disturbing content and I take player wellbeing seriously. This game is based around Traumatic Events creating Sins from Psychically gifted individuals so Trauma and dark themes are baked in alongside body horror and personal horror. Before we begin, we'll use Lines & Veils, you'll have the opportunity to set hard limits on content that should never appear at the table, as well as topics you'd prefer kept off-screen rather than depicted directly. These are respected without question, no explanation needed. If for some reason your lines and veils preclude you from playing CAIN I will speak to you about what can be done or accept your departure with grace. My table operates on an Open Door Policy, this means that if at any point the content becomes too much, you are always free to step away, take a break, or leave the session entirely without judgement. Real people always come before the game. During our 3-4 hour sessions I'll do regular check-ins to gauge how everyone is feeling, especially after particularly intense scenes. If things get heavy, we take a break; no pushing through. At the end of every session we close with Roses & Thorns, this is a chance to share what felt great and what didn't land, keeping the game a collaborative, comfortable experience for everyone. After the session, I'll also follow up with a private message to check in individually. Sometimes things hit differently once you're off the game and decompressed, and I want everyone to feel they have space to raise anything they didn't want to mention at the table. This is a dark game, but it should never feel unsafe. When in doubt, just say the word. Again this game is not for everyone but in the right hands with the right group it is a memorable experience. The extensive trigger warning list below is not all the things that WILL be in every game session, it is all the things that COULD be in a given session depending on the hunt and the Sin your team is sent to execute.
