About the adventure

The place called the Daggermarch has not been explored in living memory. All that the records recall is that it was a place at war, and that eventually, that war destroyed it. Between battle and spell, all that remains is a wasteland that none dared touch for fear of the potent magical residue choking it. You, of course, are not afraid of that. For the first time in generations, a band of adventurers, scholars, and mages have gathered in a small village at the border of the Daggermarch with the intention of discovering its mysteries. This is a Westmarches-style campaign using the Daggerheart system. Every session, a table of adventurers will choose where they want to explore, then will fill in a collectively-made map of their journey for the use of others. The tables are open, so anyone can join in as and when they are available. There is also a twist: in the first half of every game, you will seek out clues about what this place is, or how to quell its magical effects. Using a Brindlewood Bay-style emergent mystery mechanic, the party will choose for themselves how to interpret the clues you collect, and roll to see if your guess is accurate. There is no right answer beyond what you can invent! The second half of each session will then be implementing your theory... or dealing with the consequences if your guess was wrong. This means that this will be a highly imaginative campaign, where your collaborative theory-crafting will shape the world as you go. Never played Daggerheart before, or never played in this style? I’d love to be your introduction!

About me

I’ve been a storyteller across mediums, including as a playwright, actor, and novelist-- plus a drama critic and a literary scholar, breaking down stories and figuring out how and why they work the way they do. Over time, this came to feel like an accidentally perfect GMing education. I started playing TTRPGS with D&D, like most people, but was fortunate enough to fall into a local group where I had the opportunity to be introduced to a range of different systems that helped me realise how many amazing possibilities there are out there for collaborative storytelling through games.

Character creation

Creating your character

Once you sign up for a game, you will be invited to the Demiplane campaign, which has a character creation tool to guide you through building a Level 1 character. If you need help or support in the process, or would prefer to be walked through, just DM me or ask in the Discord. You will need to have your character at least mostly built before your first session, though it's fine to leave some gaps if you want to ask questions of the rest of the party at the start of your first session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need an account on Discord and to join the Discord server. You will also need to make a free Demiplane account to access character creation materials. Links to both are provided when you sign up. You will need a microphone, headphones, and ideally a camera.

What Hailey brings to the table

I will provide access to Demiplane, where you can build character sheets and access the compendium of character options. I will also provide ambient music, images, maps when required, and a range of other supplementary material.

Homebrew rules

We will be using a Brindlewood Bay inspired emergent mystery mechanic as the crux of each session. In the first half of the session, you will investigate and explore to gather clues. They will not necessarily piece together into an obvious 'correct' narrative, but instead, you will create a theory using as many of the clues as possible. The more clues you use, the higher your bonus for your theory roll... and the result of that roll determines whether or not your theory was correct.

Safety

How Hailey creates a safe table

I will send a link to a Lines and Veils document before the session, and it will remain live and accessible to all players who join the campaign. In play, we will use the traffic light system to indicate comfort and consent. Red means stop, yellow means the current topic needs to be handled carefully or moved past quickly, and green is a confirmation that you are comfortable with the subject at hand. These can be put in chat as coloured circle emoji, or spoken out loud. We will go over all of these tools at the beginning of play, and also take time to establish any other boundaries. After the game, we will use Stars and Wishes as a way to reflect on the game and raise any concerns. Additional content warnings may be added per session, and those listed below may or may not appear in a given session. I am very open to discussion or questions if you are concerned but otherwise keen to join the game!
