About the adventure

Ubersreik is in chaos, a perfect time to seek fortune and adventure! The great Duchy of Ubersreik was once the seat of the august Jungfreude family, until Emperor Karl Franz kicked over the apple cart. In a midnight session of his ruling council he deposed the Jungfreude's for no discernible reason and sent Imperial troops to occupy the region. Now, four factions vie for control of the Duchy and the titular city at it's heart: The Aschaffenberg's - A young, upstart, noble family looking to make their name. The Bruners - Fabulously wealthy, this noble family once held the ducal seat many generations ago. The Imperials - With a full garrison of the Emperor's State Troops occupying the region, two agents of the Emperor seek to keep the peace while finding a new Duke. The Town Council - The Guilds and Burghers of the city see a chance at relative freedom, converting the province to a Freiburg - a free city - with limited oversight from the Empire. Will you play kingmaker? Seek power for yourself? Lead a peasant revolution? Or some fourth thing not at all related to that? After a few sessions of introductory adventure to teach the game and the Foundry VTT system I'll put the direction of the campaign in your hands. Your goals, relationships, and desires will form the heart of game. Warhammer Fantasy is a game of grit, determination, danger, and more than a little humor. The forces of chaos seek to tear down your soul, while orcs, goblins, and worse claw at the borders waiting for a sign of weakness. A willingness to lean into the role playing and strong personal goals are necessary to get the most out of the game. And I'll help you flesh all of that out! WARNING! Warhammer Fantasy is built to be deadly, you are not a D&D Hero, but a brave person who has chosen the adventuring life for your own motives. You strike out on your first adventures with limited abilities in a world that has sharp pointy teeth. You are not expected to constantly be in combat; that way lies a new character creation session. I will not actively seek the death of characters outright, but in the Old World death takes many forms and lurks around every corner, and your actions have consequences.

About me

Guys, gals, and non-binary pals welcome! I'm Sean and this is my tavern. Join me for a pint of your favorite liquid refreshment and let's roll some dice together! All are welcome to safely be themselves at my purposefully inclusive tables. I've been playing and running games since the late 80's or early 90's (it's fuzzy back that far!) And have run everything from intimate table games, to con games, to 100+ person Vampire LARP's. The whole time doing my best to make the games about my players and their stories. I have over 5000 hours running games in Roll20 and spent 4 years streaming multiple weekly games. This gives me a strong understanding of how to bring you an immersive experience using super cool tools. I'm a fool for sound, setting and theme so I work with high quality maps including from Czepeku's amazing collection, bespoke soundscapes using Bardic Tools & KenkuFM, and of course, leveraging all the bells and whistles Foundry & Roll20 have to offer. Character creation

Creating your character

We'll make characters together in the opening session. All forms of character creation will be open - meaning you can roll randomly for all your bits and be rewarded with extra XP. Or, you can pick the coolest thing ever and put your fantasy right into the game, but get no extra XP. Or some mix of both, it's up to you! Dwarves, Elves, Halflings, & Humans are all appropriate for this campaign as are nearly all starting careers.

I will provide a discord server and a Foundry VTT server to play on. All you need is a discord account and a willingness to have fun!

What Sean | Throck's Tavern brings to the table

I'm a flexible and creative GM who loves rolling with the punches my players throw. I've got years under my belt playing every version of Warhammer Fantasy and have a deep love of the lore, the world, and it's unique ambience. I hope to be able to share that passion with you as we bring this crazy Old World to life. I provide ambient background sounds and sound tracks married to the scene. Where possible I use animated maps and imagery, along with immersive handouts. And I have a wealth of experience playing in character with voices and personalities to make scenes come alive. Through the Foundry VTT system I aim to make the rules as easy as possible to master so we can focus on your stories, and while the combat will be tactical, I'll be sure to make it fraught, exciting, and worth the risk.

Homebrew rules

TLDR: Warhammer has a ton of "nuts and bolts" in the rules that you can easily tweak. But if you're new, worry not! Much of the fiddly bits are handled on the back end leaving you with the fun dice rolling part. The purpose of Foundry VTT, and these rules updates, is to make the experience seamless for you. If you're interested in the nuts and boltsy bits, we will be using the following general tweaks: Group Advantage The Winds of Magic revised magic rules The Up In Arms combat rules updates Critical Fumbles Common Channeling homebrew rules making things both a bit more forgiving and bit more interesting. How Sean | Throck's Tavern creates a safe table

The X card system is in effect and you may signal that on screen or via private DM to me. I will share a link for a Consent & Safety in Gaming form that every player I play with must fill out and will be my guide star for the shape content takes. Session Zero will outline safety tools for all of us to use. And we will debrief with stars and wishes after every session. Also, my door will always be open to you for concerns, question, comments, and cool character ideas.
