About the adventure

Welcome to the Adventurer's Quarter, where the new tavern franchise, "Tusks & Teeth", is preparing for its grand opening. To increase revenue and impress their noble guests, the retired adventurers who own the tavern blew a hole right through their floor to replicate details from a popular new fashion source. There is just one problem: three teenagers went down the rickety elevator last night for a sneak peek, and they have not returned. The tavern owners need a party to plunge into the dark below, find the missing teens, and clear out the danger. Your group will face off against classic Dungeons & Dragons monsters, solve challenging puzzles, and uncover exotic magic items. You will need to work together to survive treacherous terrain, outsmart traps, and make sure the dungeon is safe before the midnight grand opening. This adventure is a classic dungeon crawl wrapped in a satirical, whimsical tone. It is designed to serve as a great introduction for brand-new D&D players, but it offers plenty of fun, tactical challenges, and memorable non-player characters to entertain seasoned veterans. Expect a healthy mix of combat, puzzles, and laughs as we navigate this campy subterranean rescue mission.

About me

I first discovered tabletop gaming in high school, when a friend dragged me into a weekend Dungeons & Dragons session “just to try it.” I walked in curious—and walked out completely hooked. From there I dove into D&D and Pathfinder, exploring every role I could at the table and falling in love with the collaborative chaos, creativity, and community that TTRPGs make possible. Outside of running games, I’m an avid worldbuilder and lore enthusiast. I love digging into setting history, magic systems, and character backstories just as much as I enjoy improvising the unexpected twists that player choices inspire. My experience as both a player and a GM has given me a well-rounded understanding of what makes a table feel exciting, safe, and engaging for everyone involved. Over the years, tabletop gaming has become more than a hobby for me—it’s a creative outlet, a place for connection, and one of my favorite ways to help people tell stories together. Whether I’m leading a new group through their first adventure or supporting veteran players as they chase bold character arcs, I’m dedicated to making sure everyone leaves the table feeling inspired and excited for what comes next.

Character creation

Creating your character

For this adventure, you will be starting as Level 2 characters. Don’t worry if you’ve never seen a character sheet before! If you are a brand-new player, I am happy to help you create your character one-on-one before our session is set to begin. If you’d prefer to try building one yourself or have a few specific questions about a hero you’ve already started, you can join our Discord voice chat 30 minutes before the session starts. I’ll be there to help you finalize your stats and make sure you’re ready to jump into the action. Since this is a role-play heavy game focused on satirical whimsey, I encourage you to create a character that sounds fun to play rather than worrying about having the "perfect" stats. We will be using the standard rules found in the basic D&D guides, so you don't need any extra books or research complicated lore. This is the perfect space to experiment with a new personality or a creative concept.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Getting ready is simple! Just follow these steps to make sure you’re set up for our game day: 1) Create a Roll20 Account: If you don’t have one yet, head over to Roll20.net and sign up for a free account. This is the "virtual tabletop" where we will see the maps, move our characters, and roll our dice. 2) Join the Game Room: Once your account is ready, I’ll send you a link to our specific adventure. You can jump in anytime to explore the interface. 3) Choose Your Character Path: You have two easy ways to build your hero: - The Roll20 Way: You can build your character sheet directly inside our game room using their "Charactermancer" tool. It walks you through every choice! - The D&D Beyond Way: If you prefer the look of D&D Beyond, you can create your character there. Just download the PDF version of your finished sheet and message it to me—I’ll take care of importing it into Roll20 for you. 4) Audio & Video: We will be using Discord for our voice chat. Make sure you have the app downloaded and a working headset or microphone so we can all hear your brilliant role-playing! I'll be available in the Discord voice channel 30 minutes before we start to help with any last-minute tech or character questions.

What Annalisa brings to the table

My GM style is to build a world around the character you have chosen to play and make it as fun and immersive as possible. I have ambient music, and I use a lots of descriptions to help drop players into the world. I use specific voices, accents and dialects for various NPCs to help players differentiate and to keep the scene alive. You are welcome to try new voices, or not indulge in voices at all - do whatever you are most comfortable with! I will have my camera on to help with facial expressions and gestures, and I would suggest you do the same! It's much easier to get a feel for a character when we can see whether they are smiling or gasping at a child who ran into a pole.

How Annalisa creates a safe table

At the beginning of the session, I will talk about Line and Veils, and then send out a document to be completed by each player with their Lines and Veils. We will talk about how to use macros in Roll20 for things like the X card, Fast Forward, or Pause, and discuss Stars and Wishes, what kind of adventure you want to go on, and what kind of story you would like to be a part of to make sure the entire party is aligned and understands the tone and vibe of the sessions.
