About the adventure

This campaign is really cool. So, chill out. Fear not! Put you feet up by my blazing fire and pull out your sack of dice. This campaign could be for you! This all ages campaign is for the experienced and the new alike. If you would like a chance to investigate a mysterious event as a team, with fun battles peppered throughout, while meeting unsavoury townsfolk and taking care of some truly dastardly bandits. Maybe even seeing Bigfoot itself... But. Worst of all. When we are all so close... The horrifying thought that winter may never end for those who come to feel the eternal chill of this dreadful disease! This campaign is being run for those who have yet to experience the chilling fate that lies in store for those who fail to resist the slow and lingering doom that comes from exposure to the Frigid Woe. This ancient and magical disease will spread it's ancient chill unless it's slow and crawling progress can be discovered and halted. What you will get as a result of joining this campaign: - introductory one-player "session-0" one-shot that will introduce your character to the world and present a way to explain how your characters have come to meet one another and why you are a part of this adventure - campaign-leader election. who will speak for the group when the time comes? let's have a vote! - a private ongoing gamechat during gameplay with DM for each character that allows for personal events, realizations, and occurrences that could, if desired, then be shared with the rest of the party. Often this is for the simple purpose of describing to a player what their character sees when a check is made, in order to allow the character to decide on their own what they care to share with the rest of the party. Sometimes used for mischief! - ongoing game recaps at start of session provided by either the GM or a party-selected character to always be posted in the discord game-chats and provide characters with up-to-date knowledge on what is going on. (Sometimes we forget, now, don't we?) - free 1-year patronage to CAIRN, my ongoing, new, and emergent online library project centralized around the very Discord channel you will need to be a part of in order to play this game! Among many of the perks of becoming a patron, you will gain access to several free games during the course of that year :-D - appropriate spontaneous weirdities and occurences... - FULLY happy to keep this campaign going beyond level 3 into whatever zany adventures await!

About me

It is true. I am a librarian. Follow this tale and you will find that not only am I trapped... Sometimes going mad, sometimes so overwhelmed with joy that my very soul weeps with the madness of it! Not ONLY am I here, forever, endlessly... But I have finally learned to tell you about it. I look forward to you joining me for the sharing of the many wondrous tales from Prfs, the Librarian! Honestly though, all wizard-hermit-librarian dramatics aside, I have been involved with Dungeons and Dragons for 32 years, and my dream as a teenager was to one day have a campaign published in Dragon magazine. Ahhhhh, the good old days. I have played many hundreds of board games once and many board games hundreds of times. I have roleplayed in space, against vampires, with steam-powered craziness, classic sword and sorcery, you name it. Come. Join my silly shenanigans! MWAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAA!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players should create a *level 1* character of any available race or class using Above VTT and the D&D Beyond character creator Adventures in Wildemount is the book to refer to from which this campaign derives, though it is not necessary to own. The first session *(referred to as session 0.5), will be a short introductory one-off between the GM and the player, in which the player will introduce themselves and their hopes for the character, the GM will introduce himself and the general way the game will run. All session zero concerns will be addressed at this time A small fun personal adventure will spontaneously erupt that will help to introduce why the character is about to become a part of this campaign and how the character has come to interact with their new adventuring party :-) If people are friends in RL or even wish to simply start with another of the players, please let me know and I will do my best to arrange a multi-character first session

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play this game properly you will first need to join the Discord channel for CAIRN, the Central Archive of Interesting Random Nonsense! here is the link. follow it, and you will have access to : - the patron level of the channel (once a session has been paid at least once, the patron level will become permanent for one year from that point) - the private chat channels for this game specifically https://discord.gg/AHxmvwBy Also, you will need to have AboveVTT downloaded and installed into your web browser as an extension. (help is available via the discord channel once you have entered) Once you have created a character, the game link will be shared with you so that the character you have created can be added to the campaign. Help for this will also be available The option to roll dice is available through D&D Beyond via AboveVTT, but I encourage players who own physical dice to make all rolls using those dice if they would like. Owning dice is super duper awesome. Like, crazy awesome and satisfying. So I get it. Simply let me know to be prepared for this so I can activate my "super-secret GM fudged-roll-detector" wizard hat. Should I decide as GM to roll physical dice I promise nobody will be slipped a "Near-Invisodot Chance Alteration Blob" I'll do it.

What Jason brings to the table

I will do my best to provide interesting and unique voices, fun atmospheric events, roleplaying willingness, and an overall desire to have fun, introduce people to this experience, stay on-the-rails so that newer players can get used to the game in its general form. However, if we are going to sandbox... (*rubs hands together gleefully*) I'm sure something can be arranged ;-) My playstyle looks to merge the skill and knowledge level of the players in such a way as to allow for the experienced to teach the newer simply by playing the game! And, I will spontaneously sing and play guitar because, I kind of need to at times as a soothing mechanism or to keep me grounded when I am getting too excited and beginning to stutter lol

Homebrew rules

I am still coming up with Homebrew type ways to play. For now, they tend to evolve. I like to just kind of see what happens first. Feel free to ask questions, alter flavour texts, suggest mechanics, and discuss the way you would like your character to operate for the sake of immersion, enjoyability and roleplay. I love imagination!

Safety

How Jason creates a safe table

The way this game is designed will allow for the players to each introduce to me during their session 0.5 how they would like to handle the "Safety" aspect of gameplay. This will allow for an individual confidentiality while eventually allowing for a group consensus type discussion once we all get together. Once everybody has discussed with me their preferred way of keeping the gameplay comfortable and enjoyable I will then develop the method we will using going forward. This will be revealed at the beginning of session 1 official, and any tweaks will be made through a small discussion with the group if necessary. I am hoping we will have so much fun that we will probably not even notice anything bad! (except for maybe mimic breath and frosty toes...)
