About the adventure

*The setting for this campaign is inspired by the Roman Empire and takes names, tactics, weapons, armor, and styles from that period and puts them into an advanced futuristic setting. SPACE ROME!* In the Galactic Imperium, it is expected for a citizen to aspire for one of several things: To join the Legion and keep the Imperium safe from its enemies both within and without; To be tested for sorrium-induction, to gain the ability to bend the energies of the cosmos and become an Inducted; To join or start a business and make a living on the planet that is your home; Or to join the millions colonizing the Frontier Provinces and discover new worlds untouched by civilization. Then there are Blades, soldiers of fortune - mercenaries. A soldier without the title and prestige, Blades are used in places that can potentially lose useful, disciplined soldiers or capable, skilled researchers. Expendable and paid in coin, the honor of a Blade is earned by being good at their job and not dying while on contract. The employer will share their efficacy, and only the most capable and deadly of mercenaries make it within the Imperium. With genetically-perfect Exalted warring in the Northern Provinces, pulling the Legion towards the front lines and the Demon's Eye stirring with the forces of the Dead Legion and their cyborg soldiers, the Imperium is a busy place. You, however, have a job to do. Either as a group of Blades or one of their famed (or infamous) Brigades, you accepted a contract to work with a Legion vessel sent to a foundry-world to explore a recently-excavated precursor ruin. Bound to work for the Tribune whose ship you bunk in, you get paid only if you survive, and what you'll find down in those decrepit ruins will change... everything.

About me

I have been running TTRPG campaigns since 2015. Started as a player, then moved up to running a session once every couple weeks. Now I'm doing it weekly, and I can't get enough. I love to write and build worlds, and this lets me be every character I've ever written. I'm happy as the Forever DM, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my worlds with others!

Character creation

Creating your character

This campaign setting uses a special list of races made available through Foundry and rules found in the Esper Genesis rulebook. Few of the base races will be available, but can be made available if asked for nicely and cool lore can be made for them. Players should also be aware that the setting uses the Metric system for units of measurement, with adequate modules and changes to make this change easier if the player(s) aren't used to the system. Characters will start at level 1 and progress to levels 13-15 near the campaign's end. They will be made within Foundry using a special Campaign Compendium available for use within the game. This includes new weapons, armor, ranged weapons, item modifications, changes to classes and races, augmentations, and access to starships and vehicles unique to the setting. Characters will be made using either Standard Array or Point-Buy methods of stat allocation. your choice as you make your character. Subclasses and classes made available by non-WotC content can be asked for and will be up to GM consideration depending on if they fit the setting.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need an account on Discord (for now pending on stuff that happens in the next month or so), a microphone for voice chat, and a decent web browser to use with Foundry VTT. If the player group wishes, webcam's may be used to give the group a visual of one another for better emotional understanding.

What CryptMaster brings to the table

I will be providing a special compendium for this campaign that offers unique weapons, armor, tools, augmentations, item modifications, special rules for magic items, races, and class names. Each map will either have a splash image to evoke the theme of the map or a special exploration and combat map depending on its complexity. Depending on what is available, music will be provided to set the tone and themes, and while I try with accents I may not be the best so try not to laugh too bad at them. Combat will be tactical and tense, with many encounters either outnumbering the group or outclassing them. Use cover, flanking, and unique abilities to make combat go your way. I enjoy the Rule of Cool. If it sounds rad and its embraced by the group, lets do it! The rules are there as a guideline. We create the world as we play, so goofy ideas and fun concepts can always be added to increase the groups enjoyment of the game. As I have not fleshed out every aspect of this setting, new ideas and additions are always welcome. It is a creative group game, so lets be creative as a group!

Homebrew rules

We will be using special multi-use healing potions (stims), Brutal Criticals (extra die are treated as rolling max), Hidden Death Saves (only you and I know whether you are dying), special training rules, Spell Points variant rules (with my own changes thrown in), special vehicle combat rules, and rules regarding Sorrium (the unique material of this setting).

Safety

How CryptMaster creates a safe table

Session 0 will cover both character creation and any limits or triggers for players who wish to participate. These can either be covered through the Discord voice chat or via direct messaging. Breaks can be taken when needed or at the session's halfway mark. The content warnings provided in this listing may be changed based on player needs, as content may be removed to make it more comfortable for the group. I have a zero-tolerance policy for the mistreatment of fellow players, and those who choose to participate in acts that make the game less fun for the group, with the statement of "it's what my character would do," are not welcome. Phobic statements and toxic acts are not welcome and will cause removal from the game. Political or religious statements, arguments, and sentiments are discouraged while part of the campaign and during sessions. Unless everyone has the same beliefs and are happy to share and discuss as adults, we're here to play the game that lets you not be yourself for a while. We're here to have fun and escape from reality for a bit.
