About the adventure

This is an intro to D&D and an intro to Obojima game. Beginners are welcome. This is a game that will provide opportunity to learn and practice all aspects of ttrpg play: tactics in combat, wonder in exploration, whimsy in role play and more. Obojima is a setting that is easy to like, cozy and will draw you back in over and over. This game has a cozy and relaxed pace. Challenges will not often have hard deadlines and will not usually have dire consequences. Character goals will play more into the story than the 'Big Bad Evil Guy' doing bad things. GM Bill is available one on one for character building and rules practice. GM and Game intros, a.k.a. session 0, will also be available and free for individuals and group bookings. Obojima is a whimsical and magical island setting produced by 1985 games. A whole new setting designed to give cozy Ghibli story vibes in between puzzling dungeons and wondrous explorations. New sub classes, species, potion brewing mechanics and a fun take on retro technology.

About me

I'm a very creative and high improvisation DM. I'm excited to see players go off the rails and figure out how to make a train fly. I focus on making the story interesting and providing the PCs with adventures that matter to them. I run weekly games at my LGS: Dungeons and Dragons, one shots for beginners; Borg campaigns, either Mork Borg or Cy_Borg sandbox campaigns. I have had the unique chance to gain experience with a variety of systems. This gives me a very large toolkit when looking for ways to resolve unique situations. It also means that I can learn to run a system very quickly. I love flavor heavy, indie, rules light RPGs. I use the story and rules extensions to help everyone through fast paced, hilarious, and exciting games. My schedule moderately flexible, adventurers are welcome to inquire

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen during a free session with GM Bill, before actual play. Stats will be standard array, characters will start at level 1, characters may be made on paper, pdf or D&DB*yond. GM Bill will keep an updated copy of your character to better mold the story. Classic fantasy characters, from the Players Hand Book, are allowed but must take an isekai type backstory to arrive in Obojima. Options unavailable for this game: Elves not from Obojima, Clerics and spells associated with deities or planar travel.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will need to prepare to use Discord to talk. We will use Owlbear Rodeo for dice and maps, this doesn't need to be installed but if you make an Owlbear account you may upload your own character art. Players will also need some way to edit a PDF of their character and send GM Bill the updated sheet after each session.

What GM Bill brings to the table

I will use character voices and music. I stick to the rule of Cool and Cozy. I facilitate Proactive Role playing and player projects. I create fun fantasy adventures from Character backstory, goals and in world obstacles, rivals and problems. I am a fan of no homework, or Necropraxis, gaming and only ask that players do what is fun between sessions. I will not be rushing this cozy game. Sessions may run late and/or be liminal at times.

Homebrew rules

keeping this table as RAW as possible to introduce new players to the basics. I utilize three major sections of game play/mechanics: Journey for travel, Counsel for major NPC interactions, and Adventure for grid based combat and exploration. I stole these mechanics from Lord of the Rings 5e.
