About the adventure
This is an individualized Learn to Play D&D (5e – 2014) session designed for brand-new players or anyone who wants a comfortable refresher in a low-pressure environment. Together, we’ll build your character from the ground up, learn the core mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons, and then jump into a guided adventure where you are the hero. The session moves at your pace, with plenty of time to ask questions, try things out, and get comfortable making choices in character. The adventure is a short, story-driven one-shot set in a classic fantasy world—think small towns, mysterious dangers, and meaningful decisions rather than overwhelming lore. Combat, exploration, and roleplay are all introduced naturally as they come up in play, so you’re learning by doing, not memorizing rules. This session is friendly, patient, and judgment-free. You don’t need to know anything ahead of time—just bring your curiosity and imagination. By the end of the session, you’ll understand how D&D works, how to roleplay a character, and feel confident joining future games. Agenda 1. Character Creation - Walk through character creation step by step - Choose a race, class, and background based on what sounds fun - Explain what the numbers mean in plain language - Finish with a fully playable character you understand 2. Mechanics Basics - How ability checks, saving throws, and combat work - What the different dice do, and when to roll them - Turn structure, actions, and basic spells/abilities - Focused on what you actually need to play 3. How to Roleplay - What roleplay is (and what it isn’t) - Speaking in character vs. describing actions - Making choices as your character without pressure or “acting” 4. Guided One-Shot Adventure - A complete solo adventure tailored to your character - Opportunities for combat, exploration, and roleplay - Rules explained as they come up in play - You drive the story—your choices matter Adventure calls - are you brave enough to answer?

About me
Hey, I'm Meadöe! I'm a lifelong D&D player and an all-around gamer at heart. I'm also a mom of two little boys who are currently adventuring through their very first D&D campaign—helmed, of course, by yours truly. When I'm not rolling dice, I'm working as an interior designer, managing a household with two dogs and a cat, and trying to remember where I set my coffee down. I'm an indoors person through and through; if you see me outside, something has either gone terribly wrong, or I'm getting food. I love cooking, eating, and creative writing. One of my favorite things in the world is talking to other women about gaming and helping more girls find their way into the hobbies I love. Growing a welcoming, supportive community of gamer girls is a passion of mine, and I'm always excited to help someone get started who might not have had the chance otherwise.

Creating your character
Character creation will be included as a part of this session - but if you'd like to look ahead, check out the Player's Handbook (D&D 5e 2014) [via Internet Archive for best results] You will want to read chapters 2, 3, and 4
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need: 1. A way to take notes [pen and paper is best for short-term notes, copied over to a digital format for long-term storage] 2. Physical dice set of the standard 7-dice array for ttrpg's [1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12, 1d20, and the percentage die] OR a digital dice rolling app 3. The Player's Handbook (2014) in pdf or physical form [pdf can be found for free via Internet Archive] 4. A blank character sheet [https://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/5E_CharacterSheet_Fillable.pdf] 5. Communications will be held via Discord [server link will be given day of sign-up]
What Meadoe Richards brings to the table
I will be giving out a link for a soundscape [background music and sound effects] as well as delivering my standard narrative flair in all pillars of play. I will be teaching you using Rules as Written, but will also tell you how I (and quite a few other DM's) bend the rules to fit my tables.
Homebrew rules
I do use quite a few homebrew rules, but for this beginner's "Learn to Play" session, I will be sticking as closely to the Rules as Written as possible for the sake of learning and being able to take your knowledge to any D&D table in the future!

How Meadoe Richards creates a safe table
This is a very relaxed intro into D&D, with very low-stakes combat. However, before our session, I will send out my Consent Check List and my Pillar Engagement Poll so that you know what to expect - what themes may come up at anyone's table, as well as what the "Pillars of Play" are and where you may fall on the Player Style Spectrum
