About me

I have enjoyed running play by post, in person and online rpgs in different systems, including Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition, Pathfinder 1e, Pathfinder 1e Spheres of Power, and Fate Accelerated. A lot of rpgs can expand into other areas, and I am happy to see players becoming friends with each other, doing artwork and expressing themselves through other creative outlets, and in some cases going on to be DMs themselves. The Daggerheart system looks incredibly enticing, so I am looking into running games of that.

Character creation

Creating your character

The initial session, known as session zero, will be used to discuss character ideas. Characters will start at level 5, maximum hit points at first level, average rounded up for each level after that (eg d8 averages to 4.5, so will mean 5 hit points). 27 point buy for stat generation, or use the standard array 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, then adjust for backgrounds as normal. Equipment from class and background. May also have 1 uncommon magic item (eg a +1 weapon). Also 100 gold to spend in addition to that. These may be used to buy normal equipment, or healing potions before the game begins (each healing potion costs 50gp, heals 2d4+2 as a bonus action). Rules system is Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, default to using the 2024 rules. If you want to use a subclass from the 2014 rules, let me know, and we can discuss.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A Discord account and a Roll20 account will be needed. A Dndbeyond account can be useful for easier character generation, but will not be necessary.

What Raymond brings to the table

If you want to do something outside the rules, let me know. Rule of cool can be fun, may come down to a check of some kind to determine success.

Homebrew rules

Will check with people at session zero which house rules people want to play with. Some suggestions might be: Flanking (usually not a thing in 2024 rules. If you sandwich an enemy between yourself and an ally, you both have advantage to hit the enemy. But enemies would also be able to use this). Spell criticals. Spells and other abilities that have attack rolls being able to do critical (ie roll twice as many dice) damage.

Safety

How Raymond creates a safe table

Session zero will be used to discuss character ideas, expectations to see what people are comfortable with, as well as discussing the general tone of the campaign. Anyone can take a break at any time, just let people know if that is what you are doing.
