About the adventure
This campaign is designed for beginner to intermediate players looking to learn and become more familiar with DnD 5e. The campaign is a homebrew set in space and is meant to be an homage to IPs like Firefly (tv show) or Wildstar (video game). In this space western you'll level from 1 to about 8 (possibly higher if the group is feeling comfortable managing their characters). We're here to have fun, laugh, and make some memories. While there may be some dangerous encounters, there's nothing designed to be BRUTAL for a first time playthrough and in general we'll be following the Rule of Cool. Basically I want you to learn and feel good about trying things, thinking outside the box, and truly engaging with your character and fellow adventurers. On the mechanics side of things you'll learn the fundamentals of building a character, creating a backstory with as much, or little, flavor as you wish for me to incorporate it into the world, learn how to hit stuff real good, and hopefully get into the role-play of it all. By the end of the campaign I want everyone to be completely hooked on the game and raring to go for round two, regardless if I am you GM again or not.

About me
The first ever TTRPG I played was back in 2018 where a group of my friends and I all had the collective thought of "we should try out DnD, it might be fun" and oh how correct we were. Since we were all learning together I bit the bullet and offered to GM, which means the first time I played DnD was as the GM. I definitely made many mistakes but at the end of each night we had many laughs and somehow the story kept moving forward. Since then I've been playing/GMing DnD 5e/2024 weekly. I'm definitely open to other systems but DnD 5e/2024 are the systems I have, by far, the most experience in.

Creating your character
We will be having a session 0 to go over character creation. I will provide links through DnD Beyond to streamline the whole process. Before we meet up I would think about what flavor you want your character to be more so than class/subclass/etc. Mostly meaning, do you want to just punch stuff in the face? Are you a truly sneaky individual or overly clumsy? Do you want to be good a persuading or lying? With that information we can really hone in on the best class and subclass that will meet those wants and needs.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
1. Create a www.dndbeyond.com account. 2. Create a www.forge-vtt.com account. 3. Create a discord.com account (I will provide a link once the group is locked in). I would also recommend downloading the application but you can also use it from your browser if you prefer. If there any questions I can help people one on one to make it easier.
What Curtis Godzisz brings to the table
As your GM I will be providing character sheets, maps, voices, and ambient music (if I remember to turn it on lol). The intention is to teach everyone how to be a proficient player and DnD 5e by the end of the campaign, that said, we'll definitely be using some Homebrew Rules and the Rule of Cool. As stated earlier I will be doing voices to differentiate the NPCs, as well as, make them a bit more memorable. I absolutely love RP but I understand it can be daunting for new players, and some players just don't have any interest in it and those view points are both valid. So if you're not comfortable with doing more RP beyond "Hi adventurer, do accept this quest?" I won't push it, but I do highly encourage everyone to give it a try, who knows, you might really enjoy it. If you want to do a voice, I love it. If you don't want to do a voice, I still love it. We're here to game and have fun together. Combat will scale with the players growth, so if the group takes more time to learn their characters then the combat will be more simple. If the players are feeling comfortable with their characters and how to use them then things like environmental hazards, boss mechanics, and puzzles may be added to fights.
Homebrew rules
A common homebrew rule I use involves potions. If you drink a healing potion as an action it will heal the target for the maximum value OR you can drink a healing potion as a bonus action and roll the amount of health that you'll receive. I have other homebrews but I always asks if the table wants to try them and they are not staples by any means.

How Curtis Godzisz creates a safe table
I want everyone to feel comfortable at my table. During Session 0 I will get a vibe check from each player seeing what they're okay with and what they're not okay with. For the most part I keep things very PG-13 but if we're fine with pushing that up to R then it's up to the group to make that call. Basically it's violence, death, swearing, and fart jokes but those can be worked down or up depending on what the group wants. I've taught children as young as 7 how to play this game and they had a great time in PG land but, in general, I find older audiences feel more comfortable around the PG-13 or R rating. Long story short, I'm flexible and accommodating. I will not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or bigotry of any kind at my table. If you can't be respectful of other people then I will not put up with you at all. Ideally I want everyone to feel comfortable enough to let me know if they're not comfortable with something that's happening in game and how you go about that is totally up to you. DM in discord, put up an X in chat, speak into your microphone. Every avenue is safe and accepted.
