About the adventure

Spelljammer takes your party of character beyond the terrestrial confines of any planet in the D&D Multiverse. Spelljammer coins it's name from the method by which space faring vessels are helmed, via a Spelljamming helm that requires a specially trained magic users. These vessels can resemble typical sea faring vessels or even large insects. Players will adventure beginning on the Forgotten Coast but quickly make their way into Wildspace, the area of space roughly equivalent to our solar system. From there, you'll encounter seemingly limitless new creatures, races, and places.

About me

I've been a D&D player since the days of 3.5 and returned to the game in 2023 and learned 5e. I've ran many one-shots for D&D, Bunkers and Badasses, and Obojima. I've also been in a Pathfinder 2e game campaign for nearly two years now. I started GM-ing as a volunteer at a local game store and loved doing it so much that I applied to become a professional GM with them and after an audition they hired me on. I started my professional GM career in 2025 and can't wait to broaden my horizons. I'm currently running an ongoing Dragonlance 5e campaign, paid one-shots, community volunteer one-shots, and an Obojima campaign for my friends and family. I own a license for Foundry VTT and host my own server. I have a considerable library of content on D&D Beyond and have been recently running games on their Maps VTT. I've been a Discord user since it's first year in service and have hosted and participated in live and play via post games. I'd also be willing to learn to use another platforms (i.e. Roll20, Mirrorscape, Owlbear Rodeo) if necessary. I'm eager to branch out on my professional GM career and hope that I can bring joy to your table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Upon joining the campaign, players will have access to the campaign via D&D Beyond using a link I generate. Once a player has joined the D&D Beyond campaign, they will have access to all of the relative content via content sharing. Once joined, players will create their character starting at level 1. Suitable character options may pull from the three core rule books (Players Handbook, DM's Guide, Monster Manual), the three expanded rulebooks (Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Monsters of the Multiverse), and the Spelljammer sources. If a player wishes to play anything outside of these source books, they should consults with the DM prior to character creation. All characters should be created using D&D Beyond for ease of use, management, and sharing. Additionally, these character sheets directly integrate into D&D Beyond gameplay mechanics, the VTT, and Discord via the Avrae Discord Bot.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use two services for these sessions, D&D Beyond and Discord. Both services require free accounts to be created if the player doesn't already have one. Both applications have mobile device clients however the VTT feature requires a computer. The Discord mobile device client allows you to use all of it's voice and text communication abilities. The D&D Beyond mobile client allows you to manage your character sheet, perform dice rolls, look up information, and more. The D&D Beyond application does NOT allow you to use it for VTT on mobile devices. A microphone is required for voice chatting on Discord. D&D Beyond: https://dndbeyond.com Discord: https://discord.com Prior to the session, please ensure that you have joined the Discord server and have your characters D&D Beyond page loaded in your browser or on your device.

What Travis Sluss brings to the table

I will create the campaign via D&D Beyond. Once players have joined they will have access to all of the necessary materials for the session (i.e. Spelljammer, Players Handbook, Monster Manual, etc.). Once maps are required for the session, I will utilize the D&D Beyond Maps VTT and provide the maps. I will provide the Discord server and links to join it once a player has joined the campaign here on StartPlaying. This will be used for all communications such as voice chatting, text chatting, video chatting, and screen sharing if/when needed. I'll also provide terrible voice acting and character voices.

Homebrew rules

I don't run any specific homebrew rules but I do play by Rule of Cool (RoC) in that I do what makes sense for the campaign, even if it means going off book for a short time.

Safety

How Travis Sluss creates a safe table

I am open to most tools that will make my players feel comfortable. Players may PM me their concerns, we could take polls in Discord, use X/N/O cards, or any of the other techniques listed here that will help my players. I have added certain categories in the "Content Warnings" section but this shouldn't be considered exhaustive. For example, slavery may be in the campaign but only in the regard of the party trying to free slaves for example.
