About the adventure

You awaken in darkness, your memories gone, your past erased, and the world already slipping into nightmare. Strange Aeons is a story of cosmic horror and shattered identity, where the greatest threat is not only what lurks beyond reality, but what you may discover about yourselves. Beginning in the ruins of an asylum and expanding across distant lands and dreamlike realms, the campaign follows investigators, survivors, and reluctant heroes drawn into a conspiracy tied to ancient powers that should never awaken. This game leans heavily into mystery, psychological horror, and creeping dread rather than constant combat. Investigation, roleplay, and difficult choices matter as much as swords or spells. Knowledge can save you — or doom you — and courage often means pressing forward even when the truth would be safer left buried. Expect strange visions, unreliable memories, secret cults, and moments where reality itself feels uncertain. My style emphasizes atmosphere, collaborative storytelling, and character-driven play. Horror works best when everyone helps build it, so player backstories, fears, and personal goals will shape the unfolding narrative. Combat is meaningful and dangerous, victories feel earned, and discovery is the true reward. If you enjoy mystery, suspense, and unraveling a vast cosmic puzzle together, this is a game for you.

About me

I am a veteran GM and player, involved with various RPG's since 1979. I prefer a balanced GMing style with equal parts combat and role-playing. I am retired and spend my free time working on or learning various games. Pathfinder 1E is my game of choice but I also enjoy a lot of other games. I believe in giving players meaningful choices that balance risk and reward, that all player choices shoud have consequences and that the PCs are the central focus of the game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters start at 1st level and use a 20-point by to generate stats. All core races are permitted. All Paizo classes except antipaladin, ninja, samurai and shifter are permitted. No books are required, but internet access to reference the Archives of Nethys (www.aonprd.com) is strongly suggested. Players will create characters during a free session zero. Collaboration is highly encouraged.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Roll20 will be used as our VTT, with Discord for voice and text. Players should have accounts with both services prior to the launch of the game. A character management application like Hero Lab or PCGen is recommended but not required. If you have a lot of background noise in your game space, please use noise-cancelling headphones.

What Bob brings to the table

I tend to be a "by the book" kind of GM, but I DO use the "Yes and" approach when players want to do something awesome. Rules first, but Rule of Cool in effect. I was a professional actor at one point in my life and am pretty good at accents and character voices. My NPCs have personality, goals and quirks that should make them memorable to the players. Pathfinder 1st edition is a fairly combat-heavy game, and this campaign is no exception. However, there is ample room for role-playing and character development. Expect a reasonable balance of both in our campaign. I strongly believe in giving players choices that balance risk versus reward. Any time the group is faced with a decision, their choice should be meaningful and impactful. If choices aren't meaningful, why would we be wasting game time over them? If choices are to be impactful, the players should be able to recognize the consequences of their decisions in the game world. I utilize a large number of third party publisher's content. See Homebrew Rules below for details.

Homebrew rules

I have a list of all house rules on a google doc. The link is: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p21aW_pWiuDnakLhapZUakHh3PMdIACr57Xv7tg2xnc/edit?usp=sharing DON'T BE ALARMED! While the document is 19 pages long, only a small portion will actually pertain to your character. The important bits are in the Skills, Additional Rules and Magic sections. These will likely have an impact on your character each game. The section on classes is a list of optional classes you can choose from. The section on alignment and ideals is a completely optional system you can choose if you wish.

Safety

How Bob creates a safe table

Chat about religion and politics will be politely squashed. Any further incidents may result in expulsion from the game. Each player will be provided an RPG Consent Checklist for them to flag any subjects that are sensitive, borderline or okay for inclusion. I also use a digital 'X' card; any time a player feels unsafe or uncomfortable, they simply need to send me a DM on Discord saying "X". I will pause the game, discuss the issue with the player privately and edit the content until the player feels comfortable and safe again. Hate speech, antisemitism, homophobia or any derogatory chat regarding race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or political affiliation will not be tolerated.
