About the adventure

Five Banners Burning is a Daggerheart campaign frame that takes inspiration from A Song of Ice & Fire, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Avatar: The Last Airbender and other such sweeping narratives. The continent of Althas was at war for ten years but ever since an armistice was put in place five years ago there has been a tenuous peace amongst the five current nations. Power calls to those willing to take it. Loyalties are divided. Tradition wars with innovation. This is a world ripe for players looking to dive into intrigue, adventure, and the dramatic. In addition, I have added in a sixth mysterious faction that revealed itself to the world only one week before our story begins. Taking inspiration from Watchmen and skrulls from Marvel comics I wanted to include an unknown threat that pushes the world in its wounded, paranoid state into even more heightened anxiety. This allows for an extra mystery for players to uncover while allowing me as the GM to add something of my own to this interesting campaign frame. My aim with this campaign is to be able to play sessions that impact the story and world regardless of party size. I would like to have a consistent group meeting each week, of course, but this campaign is also open to those who just want to play one-on-one or who can only pop in sporadically. The actions everyone takes will reflect within the story over time, be it from a single individual or a full group of six. I adore Daggerheart and am a Rule of Cool game master who loves diving deep into lore, the world, and my players’ characters. If anything I've written sparks your desire to dive into this story with me I'll be thrilled to have you at the table.

About me

Storytelling has always been a giant love of mine. Honestly I believe the meaning of life is to create and to love. Creating can be anything depending on the person - art, music, furniture, duck sculptures - but for me it's narrative and world building. I've always been a big nerd, probably starting with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was about six years old. Comic books, anime, fantasy and sci-fi novels, video games, board games, no matter the nerdy interest I've at least dipped my toe into it. Tabletop roleplaying games, though, that passion has never dampened. I'm thirty-seven now but started playing DnD when I was around fifteen with 3/3.5 edition. I played and DMed amongst friends, all of us sitting around a giant pool table rolling dice and staying up way too late. When I graduated high school and left my small town I quickly fell into the roll of Forever DM because if no one wants to run the game but you want to play it, guess who has to step up? I'm glad I did because I love building worlds, creating scenarios that players talk about for weeks, introducing NPCs they can't help gush about loving or snarl about hating. I will always use the phrase collaborative storytelling when talking to the uninitiated about ttrpgs because, for me, there's no better way to describe this dorky modern version of sitting around a camp fire telling tales to awe our community. There's not enough word count for me to keep singing the praises of ttrpgs. Suffice it to say: big fan.

Character creation

Creating your character

Every player is welcome to create a level one character using official material from the Daggerheart Core Rulebook or the playtest material found on The Void (except for the transformation cards). Players can make their characters on Demiplane or with classic pen and paper. I have no problem if people want to have their characters available digitally or on paper but please make sure you atleast have created a character token in Roll20 before the session begins. If a pre-gen character is preferred the link below contains a folder containing eight pre-gens I wrote up using form fillable PDFs. What Taryn brings to the table

I will being doing voices, using music and sound effects. I love getting my players as immersed as I can. Even with any sort of battle map I come to any session as though everything was theatre of the mind so do my best to paint a picture. I am a Rule of Cool gamemaster who does not appreciate rules lawyers. I love when rules benefit the players but time does not need to be wasted arguing when it can be handwaved that session for the sake of time and fixed next time. This is all about having fun and telling a great story together.

Homebrew rules

Currently there are no homebrew rules but as sessions go on this may change.
