About the adventure

This game is aimed at home-educated students and is perfect for new players or more experienced ones alike. Your character goes to the Witchlight Carnival at the behest of a benefactor, but also to recover the precious item you lost there the last time the Carnival came to town. From there various mysteries, intrigues, puzzles and riddles lead you on a quest into the Feywild, a plane of magic and pure emotion. This campaign is deliberately non-violent and most if not all situations can be resolved without combat. You (and your character) will need to use their brain and their heart to negotiate this quest.

About me

Hi! I'm Chris from the UK. I am an educator who loves TTRPGs and see them as a good way to develop all sorts of skills in young (and not so young) people. Problem solving, understanding probabilities, developing empathy, learning to improvise, overcoming social anxiety and all sorts of other abilities come into play in every game - and you get to learn and develop them while having fun and telling great stories together. I started off back in the day (early 90s) with games like Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but since my kids have been old enough, Dungeons and Dragons has become my main jam. I've G and DMed many sessions both online and around a table and my main obsession is that every character has their own story to tell as well as the plot of whatever game we're playing, whether it's a one shot or an extended campaign. I love playing published material with all the shiny resources available (I use Roll20, DNDBeyond and Syrinscape a lot) but I'm also very happy homebrewing, worldbuilding and running original scenarios and campaigns.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters during our first session, or possible before via our discord server if time allows. Party balance is important, so it is better not to come to the game too heavily invested in playing a certain type of character.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need accounts on Discord, Roll20 and DNDBeyond. You will need to install the Beyond20 browser extension to allow your rolls from DNDBeyond to appear on Roll20.

What Chris brings to the table

D&D is the perfect medium for young people to develop social skills, empathy, problem-solving, mathematical skills, teamwork and communication, all while having fun! As an educator, I ensure my games are a safe space for young people with any level of confidence to have a good time and to express themselves. My games have atmospheric music and ambience via Syrinscape, and I love to characterise NPCs with memorable voices and mannerisms. There will be plenty of good humour without becoming silly. I love to work in backstory elements from each character into the main plot, so each character has their own motivations and objectives that are important to them. We'll weave these strands together with the main plot to make a really excellent story.

Homebrew rules

I am open to suggestions, but don't tend to use homebrew rules on a regular basis.

Safety

How Chris creates a safe table

Each player will complete a Monte Cook consent checklist before will play, and the first session will include a talk about triggers and what to do if it happens to you or you notice it happen to someone else. During the sessions, players are free to leave the virtual table without permission and without judgement if they need to. I check in with players after sessions via discord if something upset them during the session.
