About me

Hi! I'm Chris from the UK. I am an educator who loves TTRPGs and see them as a good way to develop all sorts of skills in young (and not so young) people. Problem solving, understanding probabilities, developing empathy, learning to improvise, overcoming social anxiety and all sorts of other abilities come into play in every game - and you get to learn and develop them while having fun and telling great stories together. I started off back in the day (early 90s) with games like Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but since my kids have been old enough, Dungeons and Dragons has become my main jam. I've G and DMed many sessions both online and around a table and my main obsession is that every character has their own story to tell as well as the plot of whatever game we're playing, whether it's a one shot or an extended campaign. I love playing published material with all the shiny resources available (I use Roll20, DNDBeyond and Syrinscape a lot) but I'm also very happy homebrewing, worldbuilding and running original scenarios and campaigns.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen in our first session or even before via my discord server. Starting at level 1, and we need a well-balanced party to get the most out of this epic campaign. We'll use DNDBeyond for character sheets (I will enable asset-sharing so no purchases required for standard builds).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need accounts on Roll20, Discord and DNDBeyond. You will need to install the Beyond20 browser extension to enable rolls from DNDBeyond to appear on Roll20.

What Chris brings to the table

I have run this campaign several times before and I love to work in backstory elements for each character beside the main plot. I love characterising NPCs and you can expect a healthy dose of humour without things getting silly. There will be accents! I use syrinscape for atmospheric in-game music and ambience and have a professional microphone set up and HD webcam so I should look and sound very clear. This campaign is a good mixture of roleplay and combat and there are large elements of hexploration, puzzles and traps to deal with. The different factions in the setting make every run-through unique and players have a lot of agency to decide how they deal with the problem. The Roll20 assets for this game are great, but some of the maps are large and can be laggy on older/less powerful computers. We can get around this with screen shots in discord, but just so you know. We can use my Discord server for communications between games and as a place to for quest logs, loot sheets and notes.

Homebrew rules

I don't have any homebrew rules that I use as standard, but we can agree upon any suggested during the first session or session zero.

Safety

How Chris creates a safe table

Each player will complete a Monte Cook checklist before the game, and I will explain to players what to do if any content is making them uncomfortable. I try to include trigger warnings at the start of each session in case anything has emerged since the beginning of the campaign. I have an open door policy, so players can leave the virtual table without requiring permission or receiving judgement. I check in with players after sessions via discord.
