About the adventure

The Sunless Citadel is one of the most enduring introductory adventures in Dungeons & Dragons, and it earns that status by being both approachable for new players and surprisingly rich for experienced groups. It’s a compact dungeon crawl with a clear premise, but it layers in enough mystery, faction play, and environmental storytelling to feel more substantial than its page count suggests. What It Does Well A Strong, Focused Premise The adventure wastes no time: strange events, a vanished fortress, and a reason for the party to investigate. It’s easy for any GM to hook players into the story, and the setup feels classic without being stale. A Dungeon That Feels Alive The Citadel isn’t just a static ruin. It has factions, shifting tensions, and NPCs with motives that can meaningfully affect how the party navigates the space. This gives players a sense of agency beyond “clear the next room.” Great for Teaching the Game Encounters escalate in complexity at a steady pace. Players learn exploration, combat, negotiation, and resource management naturally. GMs get a structure that’s easy to run but flexible enough to customize. Memorable Atmosphere The tone leans into eerie decay and creeping corruption without becoming grimdark. Even without spoilers, it’s safe to say the adventure’s central mystery has a distinctive flavor that sticks with players long after they leave the dungeon

What Ka Mung Vej brings to the table

I do embrace the Rule of Cool. The bottom line, is that the players should have fun ( and I should to ) this isn't me vs you. It's a collaborative story telling game. No hate, no toxicity. Just have fun. I don't fly with people being 'edgy' because that is what their character would do - This is a co-op game.
