About the adventure

Experience the world of Dura, a homebrew setting where games and player characters shape the fate of nations. In Book of Fates, you begin your journey in the undead-cursed land of Rogaan. Expect a variety of challenges across social, combat, exploration, and more on your quest. There will be themes of Sacrifice, Unintended Consequences, and Heroic Struggle. This campaign will go from level 1 all the way to level 20. You will experience a narrative interwoven with player backstories and a campaign spanning years (both in and out of game). There will be opportunities to delve into lore, explore character motivations, and leave a lasting mark on the world. About me

Hello! My name is Kevin and I’ve been running TTRPGs for over 25 years. I have a passion for collaborative storytelling and worldbuilding. The most important aspect of TTRPGs for me is that when my players are having fun, I’m having fun. In terms of my style, I seek balance between storytelling, roleplay, tactical combat, and exploration. While a session may lean into one style, the next might be totally different. My specialty is running full, multi-year campaigns where players have a real and lasting impact on the game world. I’m happy to work with all experience levels, from teaching new players to collaborating with seasoned veterans. I tend to run games in unique and thematic homebrew worlds, each with their own lore to explore. I’m more than happy to run published adventures however, just send me a message. My focus right now is on Dungeons and Dragons 2014 and 2024, but I have experience with most editions of D&D, Pathfinder, and several other systems. I love learning new systems, if there is something a group wants to try. I also have experience with game design, which informs my approach to integrating homebrew (or creating custom homebrew for players). I’m looking forward to telling great stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

During session 0, the party will roll for stats (4d6 take the highest 3). We'll be using a roll sharing rule, meaning you can copy the rolls of any other party member. This will ensure everyone is on equal footing. Characters will start at level 1 and will be made in the associated Roll20 game. Any non-setting specific 2024 book (and with approval 2014) is available to use.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord and Roll20 account for this game. There will be a Discord server for lore and discussion. The Roll20 game will include content sharing with all relevant books and Pro amenities.

What Kevin brings to the table

Expect a mix of high stakes roleplay and tactical combat. We'll be sticking to Rules as Written the majority of the time, but the Rule of Cool definitely applies in unique scenarios--especially if a player has a great idea/strategy. There will be a focus on collaborative storytelling. Expect first and third person roleplay and an emphasis on player agency.

Homebrew rules

1. Roll Sharing - copy the stat rolls of any party member 2. 2 Space Rule - moving through more than 2 threatened spaces provokes an attack of opportunity 3. Flanking Optional Rule - a threatening ally directly opposite gives melee advantage. 4. Saving Throw Automatic Success/Failure - similar to attack rolls, a 1 always fails and a 20 always succeeds, no other effects. 5. Other homebrew rules proposed and voted on during session 0.

Safety

How Kevin creates a safe table

Session 0 is vital for player safety and comfort. We'll go over and discuss each safety strategy. Players will have the opportunity to set Lines and Veils. For intense sessions (or whenever requested) we'll practice a little aftercare together to decompress and separate the events of the game from real world player emotions. X, N, and O's are messaged in chat or directly to the GM.
