Meet the Game Master
About me
I've played TTRPGs since 1991. I have been a player and a Game Master (DM, Handler, Narrator, etc) . While my playing has been on and off for years I have really been GMing and playing again since 2020. As a GM I feel I'm best suited to help new players getting into the hobby. I like to create an atmosphere of cooperation, communication, and celebration. My biggest honor has been when players of mine have come back to tell me they "learned everything they know" about the game from me yet have sought out their own "other games" and/or become GMs themselves. Really is more rewarding. With a background in Outdoor Adventure Recreation Leadership I feel I have a unique skillset to break game rules and technology down to their basic forms. Building a solid foundation for play and then encouraging players to "make it their own".

Creating your character
I as the Dungeon Master aim to set aside time with each of you to develop your characters. If all feel they would like to do this as a group, we can explore that. I see DnD Beyond as being a valuable tool for this.... yet paper and pencil is always appropriate!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Show up with an open mind, great attitude, and the right gear. - A relatively modern computer capable of running web-based programs (8-16MB Ram and Chrome or Firefox - no Safari) - Decent, stable internet access - Good Audio input (a headset/good microphone - note speakers echo and on board mic's are hard to hear) - Create their own FREE Roll20 account (if they do not already have one) - Dungeons & Dragons Players Handbook (2014 or 2024) physically or as a PDF - Character Sheet - A full set of dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, and the beloved D20) and/or a digital dice roller (it is so much more fun to roll dice than to use an online dice roller)
What Nick brings to the table
- Full Service. Ask question in between sessions. Need to chat about your character, let's set a time to do so. I will be as available for chats as needed via online meetings as much as possible for players. - Consistency. First thing on the calendar wins. This will be a priority. Yet we all have life that throws us curveballs. Games run when scheduled. If half or more of the players cannot make a session happen we will normally skip to the next session. - DRAGONLANCE specific resources to help with character creation and emersion. - If you join, play a game and don't like it, I'll refund your session price with no questions asked.
Homebrew rules
Homebrew rules, in my opinion, get created at "the table" as a group. There may be some I bring to the table after discussion. As an example: - I have always appreciated rolling stats 4D6 dropping the lowest of the 4 dice. This gives characters flexibility to place numbers in stats they feel their character concept would dictate and creates unique dichotomy amongst players characters! - at the time of leveling up, I like both the DM and the player rolling for Hit Points and the player getting the higher of the two rolls. If the crew does not want that for a grittier more "this is the character I made" feel, I am all for that!

How Nick creates a safe table
We use safety tools to promote a positive and safe place to play together. When you join, you commit the following: - "I wont attack other players or steal from them (PVP). I will play a character who isn't explicitly evil or selfish. I will respect the narrative consent of others and be a team player. I promise not to engage in problematic play and I will come to the table with a great attitude." - Sessions are positive welcoming all. - We will go over additional safety details in session 0 - The campaign will not contain: sexual assault, child abuse, racial prejudice, systemic racism, homophobia, or transphobia. - Zero tolerance for harassment or bullying of any kind. - We play games that emphasize emergent play with "yes, and...". If you come to the table wanting to have fun and ready to roleplay at your comfort level, we are going to have a good time.
