About the adventure
This standalone adventure was written by me to serve as an ideal (per my definition thereof) introduction to Dungeons & Dragons for brand new players. It features (but is not limited to): • A roughly equal balance of all three adventure pillars (combat, exploration, & roleplay) • A dungeon • A dragon • Starts in a tavern • Is a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end meant to be experienced within the one-shot • Is designed to get players invested quickly and teach the game naturally through play • Leaves room for certain questions to go unanswered to entice people wanting more, without feeling like it was incomplete • Has optional encounters that I can plug in/take out on the fly based on how quickly the party is moving through the plot • Showcases some of the things I'm especially great at as a Dungeon Master (character work, cool descriptions, and choices that matter) • Is simultaneously everything you'd expect from a stereotypical D&D adventure, yet also subverts a ton of typical expectations • Is for Level 1 characters And if all of that isn't enough, it was built from the ground up to be welcoming, flexible, and fun—whether this is your very first time rolling a d20 or your hundredth time sitting down at the table. So grab some dice, build a fresh-faced adventurer who is looking to get started on a new career, and join me on a guided tour of the world's greatest roleplaying game.

Meet the Game Master
About me
My name is Joshua, and I am a professional Dungeon Master with decades of experience as an actor, storyteller, and entertainer (known a "DM on Demand"). I will bring my creative flair to each and every game, providing you with an incredible experience unlike any you can find elsewhere. Looking to book me for a group of kids? No problem. I have 7 years of experience in the children's entertainment industry prior to doing this. Looking to book for adults? Also no problem. Let's face it, adults who like Dungeons & Dragons are just big kids anyway. I've been doing this for some time now, so you can book me with confidence knowing you're getting the whole package.

Creating your character
You can make characters using the standard rules for Dungeons & Dragons 5E found in either of the Player's Handbooks (2014 OR 2024, both are acceptable). Because this is an introductory adventure meant to help onboard newer players to the game, I would encourage you to keep it simple and stick to character options found in the Player's Handbook. If you *really* want something from another book (Tasha's, Xanathar's, Bigby's, etc.), just clear it with me first.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need to join my Discord server and download the free trial copy of Fantasy Grounds Unity. All sessions take place in Discord & FGU.
What Joshua brings to the table
My DMing style has a strong focus on telling a dramatic story that emphasizes detailed characters who go on an emotional journey. That being said, I'm also a fan of intense, tactical combat, and like to use it where necessary to ratchet up the tension. I put a great deal of effort into making sure characters in my world feel real, fights are exciting, and exploration yields rewards. I occasionally use character voices and ambient music to help with worldbuilding.
Homebrew rules
I don't use homebrew rules in this game. Everything tends to be by the book, except when the "Rule of Cool" sometimes mandates otherwise.

Safety
How Joshua creates a safe table
Player safety is always at the forefront of my mind when I prepare and run sessions. I've included a list of potential content warnings you may want to be aware of for this game. If any of those are a problem for you, let me know, and I'll change them. Standard X, N, and O cards are always welcome to be used if you are in crisis during a session, and I will always make room for an aftercare discussion should a session prove to be stressful. If you have any concerns about safety whatsoever, please feel free to bring them up with the group or in private with me.
