About me
I’m a therapist by day, grimdark author by night, and a prolific daydreamer in all the in-betweens. I run a mobile blacksmith wagon to teach all ages the wonder and beauty of smashing things with a hammer and throwing them in the fire… not in that order. I specialize in immersive, narrative-driven tabletop RPGs with a strong focus on roleplay, atmosphere, and psychological tension. I’m passionate about creating vivid fictional worlds with depth, complexity, and dark surprises that feel obvious after they come to pass. I’m down-to-earth and care far more about the shared experience at the table than getting my way. If it’s possible to have no ego, that’s me. I love mysticism, magic, grimdark fantasy, cosmic horror, storytelling, and impossibly complex puzzles. If you play with me, buckle up!

Creating your character
We'll create characters together before Session 1 using standard Candela Obscura rules: no homebrew, no hidden gotchas. New to the system? I'll guide you through it. Characters start competent, not novice. Candela has no levels; you progress through experience, consequences, and the scars you accumulate. Create someone grounded and human rather than optimized. Curiosity and adaptability matter more than raw stats, and overlapping skills often make better stories than perfectly balanced teams. I'll provide all materials, answer questions, and review characters to ensure everyone starts on solid ground.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Platform: Private Discord server (invite after booking). All gameplay, rolls, character sheets, and resources live there. No external tools needed. Posting Cadence: One meaningful post per week minimum, due Monday evenings. We do tend to have a lot of live play in between deadlines. To keep things moving, I advance the story every Wednesday regardless of activity. This rewards thoughtful play over speed. Dice & Transparency: Visible dice bot handles all rolls. No hidden mechanics, no private rolls. What You Need: Nothing. I provide all Candela Obscura resources and support players new to play-by-post or the system. The Expectation: Consistency matters more than frequency. Silence is a valid character choice, but the world moves forward regardless.
What Dante Winters brings to the table
I run slow-burn, atmospheric horror focused on investigation and consequence. Expect rich descriptions, psychological tension, and scenes that build dread through what's implied rather than stated. This is a story-driven game, not a tactical one. Combat is rare and dangerous. Tension comes from mysteries, moral dilemmas, and the weight of your choices rather than optimizing builds or winning fights. I follow Candela's rules for consistency and fairness, but support creative solutions that fit the world. If your approach makes narrative sense, I'll find a way to make it work within the system. Players who thrive here enjoy: piecing together clues, making difficult choices with incomplete information, character development through consequence, and stories where "winning" isn't always clear. I run a collaborative table with clear communication. Every player's perspective matters, and the story shifts based on what you pursue and how you respond. No spotlight competition, no gotchas.
Homebrew rules
Standard Candela Obscura rules—no homebrew, no modified mechanics. Dice resolution, advancement, and consequences work exactly as written in the core book. Candela is light on rigid procedures by design. I apply the rules consistently while letting narrative context shape how consequences manifest in the fiction. The mechanics stay stable; the story responds to them. Situational rulings happen only when needed for pacing or fairness, and I'll always explain my reasoning. No hidden mechanics, no surprises, no mid-game changes.

How Dante Winters creates a safe table
Player safety matters, especially in horror. Before play, everyone submits a Lines & Veils document establishing clear content boundaries. No debate, no exceptions. Session 0 covers tone, consent expectations, and what horror is/isn't on the table. You won't be surprised by content you didn't consent to. During play: DM me anytime to flag discomfort, pause, or redirect—no explanation needed. I also watch for tone shifts and check in proactively. After intense scenes: I build in decompression space so you can step back and reflect. Horror should be meaningful, not overwhelming. No one needs to push past their limits. I'm a therapist by profession. This table explores dark themes with trust, care, and clear communication.
