About the adventure
The Magical Land of Yeld is a game about children wandering beyond a magical door into, well, the magical land of Yeld. Now the Friends are on an adventure across the breadth of this strange and magical world. Their quest? To defeat the Hunters of Yeld, the dark champions of the evil vampire Prince Dragul, and collect the seven magical keys. Only once they recover all the keys will they be able to go home. Luckily the Friends have access to powerful Heroic Jobs that can give them amazing powers. Magic, martial might, even the ability to steal souls! But they have to hurry, for anyone who turns thirteen will transform into a monster and never be able to go home again... The Magical Land of Yeld uses a very simple system that creates pools of 6-sided dice. Gather the appropriate number of dice and roll, comparing the total to the target number. It's that simple! Combat in Yeld uses a battle grid, simplifying things while still offering a lot of flexibility. Unlike other systems that use rigid turn orders based on initiative, rounds in Yeld are dynamic. It's even possible to steal turns from your enemies! Getting killed in battle is not the end, as you can not only be easily revived as a hero/ine, but you can participate in battle as a ghost! Sure you can't hurt the enemy (unless they're a ghost too) but you can haunt and weaken enemies, or even cheer on your friends and give them a boost from the other side!

About me
Hey there, DM for over 20 years here looking to share my love of ttrpgs with many. I can run a wide variety of systems and tones. Looking for D&D 5e or Pathfinder? Easy. Looking to run Hero System 5th ed or Deathwatch? Got that and plenty more covered. Want an epic quest with deep character drama? I've run those. Looking for a game that is a bit less serious? Your angsty warlock can get their goth clothes at Fantasy Hot Topic. In my literal decades of time running games I have done all sorts of systems, stories, and styles and can match just about anything any group could want.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation is very straightforward. Each Friend (player character) has four stats: Strong, Tough, Smart, and Brave which start at 1. Each friend picks an archetype such as Big Sister, Bully, Know It All, etc. which will increase one of their stats by one. They then chose any stat (even the one boosted by their friend type) and increase it by one. When it comes to starting special dice (skills and special abilities) they get one from their friend type, and a number depending on their starting age. The older you are the more dice you start with, but the less time you have before turning into a monster. Friends don't start off with a Heroic Job, but unlock the ability early in the adventure. Friends are free to pick any job, and change between them to gain a mix of special dice to make various builds. Or stick to one job and really master it. Making a basic new character is really quick mechanically. As such the main focus should be on who your character is as a person. You don't need to be too detailed, but who your character is as a normal kid before the adventure starts is a big part of the fun of playing Yeld. Remember, you're a kid so spend some time thinking about what sort of kid you want to play.

How Chris creates a safe table
Session 0 will be where people can set lines and veils on various topics. Players are playing children characters and enemies are willing to harm them. The game will feature combat, and common enemies include sentient snakes and spiders as well as vampires. Their appearance can be toned down/edited if needed. While combat is common there are several non-lethal options for defeating enemies players can use if they wish.
