About the adventure

In the Rime of the Frostmaiden, players explore the unforgiving Icewind Dale, a northern region closed off by a permanent blizzard. Cursed with a spell renewed every night by Auril the Frostmaiden, a poweful winter deity, the sun has never risen over the horizon for two years. Thus, the flora, fauna and people that inhabit this remote region have been sentenced to a slow death. But some take this misery as a golden opportunity. The sunless days are a blessing to Xardorok, a despot from the Underdark, who has settled on this lands looking to conquer and enslave its inhabitants. He sends his underlings looking for a rare resource called chardalyn, a crystalline substance known to only exist in the Icewind Dale. One can only guess what evil purpose he'll give to these crystals. In spite of all these deterrents, some wanderers and adventurers still come into the Dale, as in the ice lie the rumors of terrible but bountiful places. The Frostmaiden's lair, the despot's fortress, the ruins of an ancient magical city. What will you look for? And how much are you willing to endure to find it?

About me

Hi! I'm a GM based in Latin America, fluent in both Spanish and English, with a degree in Filmmaking and a lot of experience as a teacher. All of my gaming exposure comes from in person games, where I found that GM-ing was my prefered role by far. I have many years of experience managing tables for friends and strangers alike, focusing on homebrewed or heavily modified adventures so that even the most experienced players can find something new at my table. I gravitate towards the narrative aspect of the game, focusing on the impact behind the mechanics to give meaning to my players's actions so that they can tell the best story possible.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen during the first session. We'll all talk about our wants for our characters and develop a joint adventuring party. As long as it's from an official source, any character option is permited. Stats will be decided by dice rolling (4d6 and drop the lowest).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll first need to join my Discord server. There you'll be given a link to the Roll20 campaign, so you won't need to download any applications, but you'll need to setup your own Roll20 account.

What Dimas brings to the table

I love to immerse my players in the story, so expect dangerous combat, ambient music, character voices and more! While I prefer to stick to the rules as written, I also love to hear new ideas for actions and solutions.

Homebrew rules

Crits: I use the Perkins Rule for Critical Hits, where you deal maxed weapon damage plus additional rolled weapon damage. For example, if you have +2 to your Strength and you land a critical hit with your shortsword, the damage calculation would be 6 (full damage) + 2 (Strength modifier) + 1d6 (damage roll). Potions: drinking a potion costs a bonus action, but making someone else drink a potion costs a full action. Also, you can use your full action to drink a potion to get the maximum amount of hitpoints available.

Safety

How Dimas creates a safe table

The general content of this game will be similar to a PG-13 movie. This adventure features themes of darkness, extreme cold, isolation, off-screen cannibalism, mental assault, ritual sacrifice, child endangerment, harm to animals, and murder along with other standard D&D tropes. If, at any time, you don’t feel comfortable with the adventure’s content or direction, send me a text, direct message, private message, or any other sign and I will adjust.
