About the adventure

WELCOME: New to D&D or tabletop RPGs? You’re absolutely welcome here. I’ll guide you through character creation, rules, and mechanics at a comfortable pace, as well as how roleplay works, with no pressure to “perform.” This short, six-session campaign is a grounded fantasy adventure focused on story, characters, and meaningful choices. You’ll explore a troubled region and decide what kind of heroes (or survivors) you want to be. This is not a sandbox campaign; it is a carefully curated linear "A-to-B" adventure. That said, don’t be fooled, you’ll still have plenty of freedom in how you tackle each scenario, and your decisions will matter. ------------------------------------ THE SETTING: For generations the lands have been filled with strife, the strong have overpowered the weak and have begun to carve out lawless realms of their own. Few have the courage to stand up for what is right, as it is easier to join the safety of the unjust lords and ladies who wrestle for control of the country. The lands of Baron Auger Black (the Black Baron) is ruled with a large military presence and his men openly spread their influence throughout the lands. The few that travel the lands have heard stories of the Black Baron and his soldiers aggressively taking control of farmsteads, villages and murdering all that oppose them. With the spreading of the Black Baron, those that are unwilling to be drawn into the Warlord’s influence have been forced to flee and risk the wilderness, or be executed for resisting the will of their new ruler. By the Baron's decree, anybody who owns books, can read, can write, or show any sign of education are to be executed. You are assumed to be some of the few that are smart enough to resist the Baron’s influence and courageous enough to flee his domain. You will be with a small wagon of desperate travellers who live in squalor and, like you, are only looking to escape the influence of a life under the Black Baron.
