About the adventure

STORY You wake up on the Red Shore Cycles, and bodies litter the sand, colouring it in their life's blood. But those are not the bodies of your crew - they are you. One impailed, the other burnt, the third half eaten... Each corpse telling a tale of a different fight and a different end. How long have you been doing this? Your mind is full of distant echoes, vivid in pain yet vague in detail. Is there an escape from this? You look around - your armour and weapons are strange and much more powerful than you remember carrying, worn from use and brimming with power. Someone is trying to help you escape... Or perhaps they want the entity at the centre of this dead. Either way, you have one goal and resilience beyond the typical adventurer. You will get out! And you will make sure no-one else has to go through this ever again! GAMEPLAY In this randomly-generated, combat-heavy, rogue-like One Shot, you face various threats determined by the randomness of a dice roll, and fight with equipment also set by the random dice. Each death bringing you closer to your goal. Combat is at the centre, with focus on testing your character build, how your party works together, adapting to difficult combat scenarios on the fly, using your environment to your advantage and finding ways of overcoming overwhelming odds. And when you die, you start from the beginning again, with new enemies and new additions to your equipment set. You can restart as many times as you wish within the session time limit. COMMUNITY EFFORT Each session builds up on top of the efforts of all who have played this One Shot beforehand. Each beaten enemy and won boss-battle brings closer the end of the Evercycle Entity at the centre of this anomaly. Each enemy beaten and each escaped hero is another step towards ending the evil plaguing the sailors and the people who used to live peaceful lives on this cursed island. Players and parties can leave messages, equipment, strategies and learned informaton for all those who come play this One Shot after them. This is a community effort as much as a test of character and a test of party. WHO IS THIS FOR? People who want to... ...test their character build ...test their party's team work or composition ...test the limits of your capability to adapt and strategise ...face difficult combat encounters with light story arch EXPERIMENTAL I haven't seen many trie to marry rogue-like struckture and randomness quite like this before, and so I wanted to throw this challenge out there for the community to face. Something non-traditional and with a heavy focus on one aspect of the DND experience. While a few playtests turned out with very positive reactions, I am not sure how this is going to be received by the wider player base, but my hopes are high. So, let's get experimental and whooped into the world of carefully designed randomness, shall we? CUSTOMISATION Upon a request, easily customisable to fit various tones, preferences and game time lengths.

About me

AS A PERSON? I am a professional actor, a university-certified nerd, a life-long gamer and an undeniable geek, creating and consuming all things fantasy. AS A DM? I have been DM'ing games for a little over 2 years now and playing dnd for almost 5 years, dnd 5e having been the very first edition I ever played, so still relatively fresh and enthusiastic about this wonderful game. MY MAIN STRENGHTS lie in story-focused games where roleplaying gets you far, the NPC's have a variety of funny voices and equally tragic backstories, and the player character's backstories will have an impact on the story, in both heartwarming and grim ways. I bring my skills and knowledge as an actor and a writer to the forefront in order to give you the best experience I can. WHAT KIND OF GAMES AND STORIES DO I LIKE TO RUN? I like morally grey decisions, goofy and weird situations, and using the game to explore variety of topics. At one moment you are healed by a joyfully singing cupcake dancing atop your head, while a moment later death comes to collect your siblings because they pissed of an elder god or sold her soul to a devil. Whether you are looking for a lighthearted escapist fantasy, a dark story where you are the only light and hope, confronting what it means to be alive or a combination of all, I might have just the game for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Use any character options from DND 2024, Unearthed Arcana Play Tests of DND 2024, or DND 5e. You can use any character from a different campaign or create a new character. If creating a new character, you can follow the next steps: 1) Choose any character class/subclass option from DND 2024, Unearthed Arcana Play Tests of DND 2024, or DND 5e. Only homebrew classes and subclasses are not accepted. 2) Ability scores. Roll using d6's, use standard point-by system, or allocate these numbers to your chosen ability scores: 20, 18, 16, 10, 8, 8 3) Choose any species or background. Instead of following the background (2024) or species (5e) rules for additional ability points, simply add +2 and +1 to any separate ability scores you wish. 4) Choose any origin feat at level 1 and another feat (or ability score increase) for level 4. 5) Make your equipment and other choices. There is no need for gold or money in this One Shot. 6) If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

1) Prepare your character and your character sheet. Email if you have any questions, wishes or requests. 2) Make sure you have a (free) discord account and a (free) Roll20 account. 3) Email me your Discord and Roll20 profiles so I can add you to the game. We use Discord for voice chat and video, while using Roll20 as the virtual game platform. You can also email me an image of your character if you wish it to be used for the One Shot in Roll20. 4) Let me know your lines and vails: what do you not want to see in the game. Safety is very important and I need to know what the players are comfortable with and what are they not, so we can have a safe One Shot.

What Lauri brings to the table

1) Unique maps I've made myself using Incarnate Map Maker. 2) Music and ambience using royalty-free sources made for DND. 3) My experiences as an actor voicing the characters and monsters. 4) Comedy and Horror mixed in together with heavy combat. 5) Most of this session will focus on combat, but will also include story bits and hints towards the larger lore and community effort.

Homebrew rules

-DND 2024 rules (including potion drinking, feeding a potions and Help action all being bonus actions) -Inspiration points allow you to re-roll any d20 test instead of adding a d6 or d8 to the roll (Baldurs Gate 3 -style) -Massive damage: dealing damage more than 1/2 of max hitpoints causes an injury based on random injury table. -Stealth Kills: If you succeed on a stealth check and manage to hit an enemy without them being aware of you, you add +50dmg to your roll. Rogues have a better version of this, where they automatically kill a target this way if the target has less than 80hp. -Un-Counted Arrows: regular arrows are unlimited -Coyote Time: If a character gets pushed or otherwise begins to fall 15ft or more, they can delay the falling until the end of their next/current turn, giving them a chance to rescue themselves mid-falling. If they fall only 10ft or less, the fall happens instantly. -Alternative Death Saving Throws: On each turn while downed, you can either roll for success/failure, or alternatively give another player an inspiration while you gain a failure. Upon being resurrected, you have a 50/50 chance of getting either an inspiration point or an injury. -Death is but the beginning of a new cycle.

Safety

How Lauri creates a safe table

Due to the style of the game, there will be no need for a session 0. However, if you have hopes or worries, or you wish to see no certain types of content, you can always message me before the session. -Email topic restrictions, lines, vales, any concenrns, wishes or requests a few days before the session. -Feel free to email me after the session if you have any feedback or wish to discuss anything that happened during the One Shot. -Bad behaviour, such as rude behaviour, crude comments or making other players feel unsafe in any other way will not be tolerated. -Mistakes are okay, but continued bad behaviour after it has been noted will result in you being kicked out of the one shot. This will depend on the behaviour, how it makes other players feel and if you are willing to change your behaviour after it has been commented on. We play with the principal of kindness and each of us ensuring that all of us can have fun in a safe way both during and outside of the session.
